Believe That It Is

Sam was stuck.

Totally and utterly stuck.

She had wasted more then fifteen years trying to make her plan work. Fifteen years had gone into trying to undue what she had done and nothing came from the endless hours that she had spent working.

Fifteen years on she had no idea on how to get them out of the mess that she herself had gotten them into. As she sat in an empty corner of the ship avoiding the five other people who were counting on her, she couldn't help but wonder if it wouldn't have been better- or if they all would have been better off- if they had been destroyed right from the very beginning by the Ori ships.

"Of course not," muttered Sam her voice thick with tears. "If we had been destroyed fifteen years ago then the legacy of the Asgard would have been lost forever and who knows what would have happened to our galaxy- let alone Earth…"

"Sam?" called out a voice interrupting her thoughts. "Sam you down here?"

"Here!" Sam exclaimed knowing that staying silent would do nothing. "I'm down here…"

Moments later Cameron came walking around the corner and as soon as he saw Sam huddled against the wall he knew that something was wrong. "Sam?" he asked running over to her. "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"Yeah," Sam assured as she brushed her tears away. "Just uh you know-"

"We all need to cry sometimes," Cam stated as he sat down beside her. "But-"

"I can't fix this," she stated quietly. "I don't think that I ever could."

"Oh come on Sam," Cameron began rolling his eye. "It's only been-"

"It's been fifteen years Cam." Sam pointed out. "What am I supposed to do? Waste the rest of our lives trying to get out of this mess?"

"I wouldn't say that you're wasting-"

Sam shook her head. "I am wasting our lives. I mean look at us, six people stuck on one ship in a time-dilation field with certain doom inside and definite doom outside…"

"Sam you just have to belive-"

"What is there to believe in?" asked Sam looking Cam right in the eye. "Honestly, what can I believe in?"

Cameron shrugged. "Do you remember when you were hurt that one time-"

"Yeah…"

"Do you remember what I said?"

Sometimes belief itself makes all the difference in the world.

Of course Sam remembered, it was what had kept her going. "Yeah."

Cameron smiled. "So just believe Sam. Believe that whatever will happen will happen and that you can only do your best."

"But what if my best isn't good enough?"

Cameron smiled. "Believe that it is."

And for the first time in days- Sam smiled back. She had believed Cameron fifteen years ago and she believed him now- and he was right for belief did make all the difference in the world.
