I was challenged to write a 200 word story hook for a webzine contest, so here's my five-minute practice since I must exercise the Muses somehow, and I love using otherwise side-lined characters.

Unholy Union

As B pushed the final distasteful round into the clip, he thought that this wasn't how things were supposed to happen, and these weren't people he should ever meet. The wrongness was pervasive. He glanced up at his comrades.

Mikami, his frigidity and lack of words deceptive, was the most earnest of them, which said something about the others since he was hardly emotional. B often expressed inappropriate sentiments in the blandest of tones, and Namikawa seemed perpetually amused in a lofty, arrogant manner.

'Click' went the bullet, and he tapped the clip against his skull, seating the rounds as Namikawa pulled a pen from his pocket, his every gesture elegance personified. Mikami took it, opening his notebook and fixing unnatural eyes so like B's own on the man before them.

B locked the magazine into the pistol, lazily standing. However wrong this was, it was necessary. He would ponder the 'why's and 'what if's later.

"You're certain this is him?" he drawled, and Reiji nodded. B pressed the pistol to the bound man's temple, noting that he didn't shy away from his death.

"Any last words, Lawliet?"

Which wasn't fair, considering he had no tongue.

Would you read this? Or would you close the book and put it back on the shelf?

I might try to make a story out of it someday if anyone's remotely interested. Otherwise, it was fun using only a few words. Even the summary was interesting to write.
