The Giant

I cannot believe how easy this is. These Israelites are wimps! I simply need stand here and the rattle of their armor is like music to my ears. I can see the fear laced within their ranks; even their proud king is too frightened.

I stand here with a bronze spear and bronze armor plates strapped to me. I tower over absolutely everyone. Some say I am over 9 feet; I like to think I tower over 12 feet.

"If any of you think you are brave enough to fight me, come forward and face me! If you do succeed in beating me in one on one combat, the Philistine army shall surrender themselves as slaves!"

I heard one of the Philistines behind me snicker, "As if that would ever happen."

"Yeah no one can beat Goliath!"

"And if I win your army will yield and surrender themselves to the Philistines as slaves!"

I have repeated this challenge to the Israelites for about a week now; and no warrior has been brave enough to come out.

I waited a couple of minutes. I saw that the Israelites still had that same look in their eyes, Fear. Here we go again.

"Cowards! Is no one brave enough to face me? You're all a useless pack of-"

That is when I saw it; I saw one come forward to fight me. The one was a little boy no probably no older than 10 years old. He was dressed as a poor shepherd boy with not but a sling and a couple of stones.

I burst out laughing, "Is this your bravest and most powerful warrior Israelites? A mere shepherd boy, with not but a sling and a stone? HA! I'm insulted that you think such a small child could take me!"

I could hear the philistine army crack up behind me as well.

The child replied, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands."

That was when I saw the boy pull a stone from his little bag and into his sling and he began to swing it around his head. I cackled, 'How can he think that that little pebble will do anything to me?'

I saw him then release the stone.

I stopped laughing at what I saw. I saw that the stone was being guided by the purest and most frightening being I've seen.

I had heard of such beings but only believed them to be myths. They were all dressed in glowing golden robes or shining silver gowns. Each of them had a weapon: a sword, a spear, even bows and arrows. They each however had Shining wings and their faces were unmoving and unflinching. They were God's knights, his messengers, his shield and sword. They were Angels.

So this is what he meant when he said God is with him. That was the last thought the Philistine had as the stone penetrated his skull.
