It was the fourth assignment she'd gotten for him. Jun decided, as she read the paper, that maybe she needed to clear over to the other side of the forest.

"No can do, prettyboy," she told the firebender, giving him back the scroll. "You're not paying me enough."

"Not enough? I'll pay you twice that, if only you get rid of that little rebel!"

"Twice that? Huh."

"Three times! Just- bring the forest boy back for us to deal with. You can name the price."

Jun clicked her tongue. "Lemme think about it a bit."

She told him what had been offered, that night. Jet frowned; his little wisp of grass flicked downward.

"Jun, you're going to betray me for forty thousand?"

"If I was going to betray you, I wouldn't be telling you." She shoved him in the ribs til he moved over, and pulled the blanket back over to her side. Hammocks were nice and all, and what they normally slept in, but hammocks didn't fit two people.

"Yeah," she saw his profile against the leaves as he nodded. "That's right. So you got a plan, then?"

"Only if you can get your little kids to get you out." He turned toward her; she crossed her arms behind her head. "I can bring you in, get the money, and split."

"Oh, yeah-" he nodded. "Then you come back and meet me, and we go fifty-fifty."

"Hah! Seventy-thirty, at least."

"Seventy-thirty?" He sat up sharply. Jun stayed lying down, smiling. "We need that money!" Jet continued. "I have to fight the Fire Nation! What're you going to use thirty thousand for?"

Such a little rebel. "I'll figure something out." She leaned up onto an elbow, letting the blanket fall and pulling him closer. "Maybe I'll bribe you to stop asking questions."
