Desperate times called for desperate measures, Lex Luthor decided, hitting the button that would change the world. Surely, there had never been a more desperate time than now. He could not allow the man he loved to die without knowing that he still, and would always, love him! Rockets soared into the midnight air and exploded high above the Earth. Glittering words fluttered slowly back down to the sky where they could be seen.

Lex turned as they drifted and watched Superman's reaction on his monitors where he could see the Justice League of America preparing for what the whole world thought would be their final battle. He saw Clark's eyes widen and his rosy lips part in silent amazement, and as Lex smiled with the knowledge that his man knew he loved him, so, too, did Clark's still lips twist into a happy grin.

Above him, outside of the world of the country boy turned superhero's dreams, Lex Luthor really did look upon his love and smile. His nimble fingers reached out and gently swept Clark's dark curls away from his face. He hated leaving him without a true kiss, but he had been out late again last night saving the galaxy.

Lex had to leave, and he wasn't about to wake him. He pressed a swift, butterfly kiss over his sleeping eyes, glanced one last time at their shared night stand to make sure everything was in order, and forced himself to leave. If he could, he would gladly spend all day and night in their home making love to the man he loved, but some one had to pay the bills and Clark's world-saving habits could sometimes run a pretty penny.

When Clark did awaken much later that day, he found the card, roses, and hundred dollar bill his man had left for him. He smiled as he traced his name and the X's and O's that followed Lex's scrawled declaration that he would always be his. It was no fireworks display, but his heart swelled all the same with his knowledge that his man loved him.

The End
