Yawning, Matsuda Tota stretched and shuffled towards the door, intending to end the hellishly long day he'd gotten himself into. The other members of the Task Force had crashed on the couch or in chairs, sprawled out, curled up, and tucked in- including Ryuuzaki himself.

Tired as he was, Matsuda didn't notice the fact for a moment. Or rather, he didn't process it- the fact that he was the only one awake was odd enough, and the sight of the young man in his chair, eyes closed, simply didn't register to his exhausted brain.

But there he was, snoozing away, in the exact same position he sat in. This didn't seem strange at all- he'd have been more shocked if Ryuuzaki had been stretched out like Mogi was.

No, what was strange was that he was asleep. L never slept- he was justice and that was that, or so it had always seemed to Tota- but then, he supposed that was rather silly. He was human after all, not a robot to be called on for whenever help was needed, a fact forgotten by many people.

Inquisitve, Matsuda crept closer, as quietly as he possibly could. He wanted to see what Ryuuzaki looked like asleep.

Curiously, he did not look peaceful.

Instead, his calm, straight features were twisted with some subtle emotion; fear, perhaps, or pain; and while he did not move, except to occasionally murmur a word or two of something indecipherable, he somehow gave the impression of sleeping restlessly.

Matsuda could see why L didn't sleep often, if his sleep was as unrefreshing and unrestful as it seemed- insomnia and dropping from lack of rest seemed preferable. He wondered if the dreams of the great detective were as horrid as they looked.

Speaking of sleep- he needed to get home and get to bed, himself.

As so Tota left the small hotel room.

He slept that night, deeply, soundlessly, dreamlessly.

But he never did forget that image- the detective unconscious in the chair, restless and troubled.

It was the way Matsuda always remembered L after he died.

Uh, yeah. Came to me on a bikeride. I'm too groggy to be sure if I'm happy with it or not, and there might be mistakes. I'm open to any concrit with this one. But I do like the concept.
I enjoy writing Matsuda, he's interest. Equally as interesting as L, I'd say, if not more so.
So, uh, enjoy, review, all that jazz...
And go watch Beetejuice, if you've never seen it.
