"Do you ever wish you'd never met me?"
Axel actually thought about it, something that he wasn't supposed to do, with questions like this. In the perfect world, he would have laughed.Instead, he sighed. "Yeah."
Roxas nodded. "Good."
Axel pulled the boy closer, making sure the edge of the clocktower was close as possible, just close enough so they teetered on the edge. "Why'd you ask?"
A delicate shrug almost sent them over the precipice, and Axel smiled. "I just...wondered if maybe it would be okay."
"I guess It would. You're not...special. Are you?"
"Not really."
Silence overtook them and Axel started to gently tangle the back of Roxas' hair, leaning in close so his chin rested between Roxas' shoulder and neck. He pushed gently and earned a glare.
"We'll fall off."
Axel nodded. "Yeah." He laughed. "Don't you think it'd be cool?"
"No." the blonde boy muttered, staring at the faraway ground. "We'd die."
"Aren't you curious?"
"Not enough to die."
"Enough to jump and hope for the best?"
Roxas snorted and wriggled carefully away, pushing Axel back so he could stand up, away from the ledge. "You want me to push you?"
"Not if you're not coming with. It'd be boring, flying on my own."
"You think you'd fly?" Roxas gave a short, derisive laugh. "Moron. You'd fall without even knowing it, and then you'd crash headfirst and break into a million pieces." He smirked. "I'd laugh."
"I know." Axel leaned slightly closer to the edge, as if it were possible. He reached behind him and grabbed Roxas' ankle, tugging the boy awkwardly forward. "We should have sex. Up here. In the light."
The blonde grimaced. "That's gross. It's normally gross, and worse outside. Why would you want that?"
"Cause then I could push you off properly...both of us. Because you are me and I am you, you know that?" He tugged on the boy's arm, strong enough so that Roxas was sitting beside him again. He flicked at the strings hanging from Roxas' coat, gently kissing the side of his face. "Did you know?"
"Get off. I don't know what the hell you're talking about, half the time -and I am me, and you are you. Did you know that?"
"Yeah." Axel pushed him and the blonde, just for a moment, felt nothing but air passing by. His eyes widened and his face loosened, melting into surprise so fast that it was like his face would just melt and fall off. He hit the platform, breathing hard.
"Fuck off." He hissed, clutching at the side of the platform. "I'm not going to let you."
"I don't want to." Axel was undoing his laces and pulling off Roxas' boots with a grin. He poked at the little-boy socks underneath. "You're prettier in the light."
"You're ugly as sin. Get the fuck off me." For Axel had moved to the side and back, lying softly beside the other boy, the grin still plastered, still permanent. He put his arm over Roxas' waist, making a soft little noise that barely qualified as meaning.
"We should die."
Roxas, stricken, put his hand on Axel's elbow. "No. Not ever."
"You gotta go sometime." But he moved his hand, lifting it so he could stroke at the little tails of hair close to Roxas' face. "We should go together."
"F-fuck off." He muttered defensively, turning his head so he could stare at the skyline. "I don't...I don't want to."
Axel sighed. "I guessed not. But you're not allowed to die without me, Roxas. Did you know that?"
"I know."
"Not ever."
"Not...ever."
"And...you can't have sex, either. Not in the light. You can't love anyone and you can't walk with anyone...and you can't...push anyone off this tower."
"I know."
"But...you will."
Roxas just nodded and stood up. "Of course."
