In An Ideal World.

The group sat around the fire, relaxing after a long days walking. Sango yawned, and Kirrara jumpedinto her lap, mewling softly. InuYasha, in a rare fit of peace, had allowed Kagome to lean against him,--and he was enjoying it, as was she. Kagome shifted to get more comfortable, which also involved getting closer to InuYasha. InuYasha put his arm around her shoulders, and pulled her against him.Kagome snuggled against him, resting her head on his chest. They were all staring at the fire, silently, each with their own thoughts, until Sango broke the silence.
"We should play a game," she said. "Something like, 'In an ideal world.' You start by saying that, then your hearts deepest desire."
Sango, who had been lying down, sat up. "I'll start. In an ideal world, there would be no evil, everyone would be happy, and I'd have my brother, Kohaku, back."

Everyone was quiet, thinking about what she had said. Then Miroku spoke up. "In an ideal world, every soul would be blessed, given equal opportunites, and poverty would be banished from the earth. And I would find a girl, to love, and be loved by."

It was InuYashas turn next. "In an ideal world, I wouldn't have to be a half-breed. I could be a full demon, and with tetsusuiguia, I'd kill every demon I met!"

Finally it was Kagomes turn. She took a deep breath, and said, "In an ideal world, I would desire but one thing. For InuYasha to stand beside me as I completed the sacred jewel. Whether he be half demon, or human, I just don't want you to become a full demon...to lose your mind, and go on a senseless slaughter. That would be my ideal world." She looked at InuYasha and smiled. InuYasha thought about it for a minute, then realized his hearts true desire. He looked at Sango, and asked, "Can I change mine?"

She nodded, and InuYasha spoke softly.

"In an ideal world, I would not be ashamed to be a half-demon. I don't truly want to become a full demon, for if Kagome...and the rest of you would stay with me, I could handle it. Half demon, to give me the strength to protect Kagome, half human, so Kagome will love me."

InuYasha cast his sad golden eyes on Kagome, certain that she did not return her feelings, despite what she said. Kagome hugged him, whispering, " I loved you since day one, InuYasha, always have, always will. The time I was separated from you, because of the overgrown well...was pure hell for me. And when I thought that I saw you pinned to the tree, in my own time, and then realized that you weren't there, I feared I had lost you forever. I had fallen in love with you, InuYasha."

Miroku smiled, and took Sango's hand. "Come, Sango, perhaps their wishes will come true tonight." Still holding her hand, he led her outside, to a hotspring. Sango knew that InuYasha and Kagome needed their privacy, but was hesitant about being alone with the lecherous monk.

'Well, that isn't entirely true. It is kind of peaceful, as long as he keeps his hands away from me.'

And Miroku did keep his hands to himself.
