author's note: I just re watched angels take Manhattan and I was a bit disappointed that they never mentioned Brian or how he reacted to their death, they didn't even say if he found out so I decided to make a short one shot with the doctor coming to tell him.

Brian williams- what happened to the others that travelled with you?

the doctor- some left me, some got left behind and some... not many... but, some died. not them brian, not them. never them. ~ the power of three

Brian Williams was a patient man, but after three months with no word from rory or amy he was beginnig to worry a bit about them. They had once explained to him that the TARDIS was a bit out dated and sometimes missed the mark slightly when landing, so he knew that he didn't really have a reason, he was just being stupid. So what if he felt a sick coil of dread churning in his stomach every time he thought about all the things that could happen to them while travelling and the doctor might forget to tell him. Off in his TARDIS with a new companion while brian waited in vain for people that were never coming home, always hoping that he would hear the sound of the TARDIS landing and bringing his son home but knowing that he never would. That's why he felt an all consuming feeling of relief when he hear the loud wailing sound of the TARDIS landing in his backyard one afternoon.

Brian dropped everything he was doing as soon as he heard that sound and ran out into the backyard where the noise was coming from. He watched as it materialised in front of his eyes and finally, there it was, that big blue box that he knew to be bigger on the inside. he prepared to give welcoming hugs as the TARDIS doors opened up and out walked the doctor and a stranger with wild curly blond hair and a very familiarly shaped face. he waited for Amy and Rory to appear but they were nowhere in sight, maybe they were still tied up in the TARDIS doing something, he began to step forward to greet the doctor but was abruptly stopped in his tracks when he saw the doctors face. His cheeks were wet with tears and his hair dishevelled but what made Brian pause was the look of devastation in his eyes.

"what's happened?"

"Amy and Rory..." here the doctors breath caught in his throat and the strange woman placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed.

"Amy and Rory they... they got..." Brian was dreading what he new was coming and felt his world crumble at the next four words that left the doctors mouth.

"they got left behind"
