Chapter 1

The wind was blowing cold of the moors that surrounded the village of Welford. Mandy Hope was glad of woolly scarf gran knitted her; it's nearly Christmas she thought happily.

'James do you think it will snow,' Mandy said to her best friend James Hunter as they walked to Lilac Cottage, where Mandy's grandparents lived.

'Don't know,' replied James. As Mandy and James continued to talk and walk, they suddenly they bumped in to Mrs Ponsonby.

'You children should look where you are going, you could of hit my toby better still Pandora.'

'We are ever so sorry aren't we James?' stated Mandy.

'I suppose so,' replied James

'Honestly Mandy I don't know how you put up with James sometimes,' said Mrs Ponsonby.' 'Well I've got to go now.'

Before Mandy or James could argue James' defence she was off with Pandora in one hand and Toby on the lead by her foot. As Mandy and James walked to lilac cottage Mandy could help but wonder what was up with James because there was something wrong.
