It was 2 days after John left. Sarah had assured me that everything was fine but I knew my world had changed forever. Those things came and destroyed my school. John had fought the aliens, John IS an alien. How is anyone supposed to wrap their head around that. I couldn't even talk to anyone other than Sarah about it, and considering the whole ex-girlfriend thing that was proving to be a little awkward.
"He's out there somewhere right now, probably fighting more of them", she says staring into the distance. That pretty much described Sarah these past few days, distant. " For all we know he could be dead by now, you saw those things.", I reply. It earns me a dirty look from Sarah who then continues to stare out the window. I honestly think she's waiting for him to ride back into town, say he's saved the day and promise her a happily ever after. I've tried to tell her that its not going to happen, the chances of him ever coming back are slim but she won't listen. Her parents seem glad to see me, they heard about John and I guess they think he was some kind of mutant outlaw. Ex-boyfriends must be more acceptable company for the Hart's than mutants. I've spent pretty much all of my time with Sarah since the incident except for the few hours sleep I got in my own house. I just couldn't get the images out of my head.
"He's the good guy", she'd told me. "How are you sure, don't all the bad guys say that too", I say. She speaks with more passion in her voice than I've ever heard before, "Yeah but he's different Mark. He's trying to protect us all, and save his planet even if it means he has to put his life in danger. I don't think he could be a bad guy even if he tried. I believe in him, and if you choose not to thats fine, but I'd like you to leave if that's the case." That was Sarah in a nutshell, even when she was being a bitch she was nice about it. I decided her company was better than no company though. "Tell me everything again, from the start"
