Two men and two women sat around a large circular table, arguing.
"I don't understand why we cannot make the school for pure-bloods only!" One of the men was saying.
"Because there is nothing wrong with Muggle-borns or half-bloods, Salazaar!" One of the women protested. "They are still witches and wizards with sufficient magical ability no different to that of a witch of wizard with pure-blood heritage!"
"Rowena is right, Salazaar," the other woman said softly. "Hogwarts is a school for Muggle-borns, half-bloods and pure-bloods. A school for equality."
"I must agree with Rowena and Helga, Salazaar," the other man spoke up. He fiddled with the ruby-encrusted handle of the sword attached to his belt. "I personally don't understand your problem with Muggle-borns and half-bloods."
"Not half-bloods as much, Godric," Salazaar replied. "But I think that the historical, magical, pure-blood families are to be prioritised above the rest." There was no more Salazaar could say. He could already see that he was defeated.
He scanned the faces of his fellow Hogwarts founders.
Helga Hufflepuff was drinking delicately from her golden chalice, her badger Patronus resting on the tabletop. Her light brown hair was straight as a pin and swept back in a braid that reached her waist. Her yellow robes looked the colour of sunlight in the firelight.
Rowena Ravenclaw was adjusting her diadem that was resting atop her mass of shiny brunette curls, her eagle Patronus perched on the shoulder of her sapphire-coloured robes.
Godric Gryffindor was still examining the handle of his sword; his lion Patronus was pacing behind him and his robes took on a blood-red colour in the firelight, contrasting against the golden tones of his blonde hair.
Salazaar Slytherin looked down at his own Patronus: a serpent curled up in front of him on the table. He glanced down at the locket resting on the chest of his emerald green robes. He sighed.
"So, it is decided then," he said at last. "Hogwarts shall be a school for all witches and wizards that reside in the United Kingdom and Ireland."
"A school for equality," Godric agreed. Helga raised her chalice slightly. Rowena nodded.
Salazaar slumped in his chair, his mind whirring with possible ways to make the pure-bloods superior in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
