A teenaged boy by the name of Heiji Hattori walked through the door of the house of his best friend Kazuha. Kazuha, who had been with him since childhood, and whom he held unidentifiable feelings for sometimes. But mostly he was just angry at her. Anger was a feeling he could identify. She constantly nagged at him and could not shut up for the life of her.

But he ignores that most of the time.

That's why he was currently visiting her on this blue-skied, cloudless day. Good day, yeah.

He walked into the familiar kitchen and saw her talking on the home phone while lounging on the counter.

"I know you like him, but seriously, he's no good." So she was talking about a guy. Whatever. Not like she was the one with the crush or anything. And it was girl talk, so Heiji could hardly care less.

He sat down at the kitchen table and sighed impatiently. She nodded at him, but went back to the conversation. Heiji sighed impatiently and started tapping on the table. Bored…

"I… I know. You know how I feel about that, right? It's just… Well," the way she kept looking at him and blushing. Was she embarrassed by him or something? He was a great detective! Why would she need to feel embarrassed by knowing him? Weirdo.

"No, no, I would too. Which is exactly why I'm telling you now. I'd need to be told too," Kazuha's sighs were frequent and uncontrolled. "Well, I'm sorry, but it seems like he just doesn't care about you… Uh-huh. Well, you'd know better than I do, but… Maybe you should find someone else… Then date him!"

Heiji stared out the window, half listening to the one-sided conversation. He was thinking he'd take a nap. Girls could drone on and on with phone calls for hours; why should he have to subject himself to the girly unmanliness that it entailed?

"Ran," Kazuha started, that made Heiji's ears perk up," I know I don't know Kudo like you do, but I'm starting to think he just doesn't feel the same way…"

Heiji jumped up. They had been talking about Kudo the entire time?

"Well, I just think that he'd visit more, even despite circum-" Kazuha was interrupted by Heiji snatching the phone from her hands. "What are you-!?"

"Ran, don't listen to a thing Kazuha just said," he voiced sternly into the phone.

"Excuse me!" Kazuha shrieked.

"Heiji?" Ran asked through the phone.

"Ran, listen t' me. Kazuha has no idea what the hell she's talking about. Kudo is doing the best he can right now, ya hear me?" Heiji forced, ignoring Kazuha's continued protests from loosing the phone.

"Oh, okay…" Heiji could almost hear the blush in Ran's voice.

"Heiji what are you-!" Kazuha, still indignant.

"Ran, I know Kudo, right? He's in a whole load of shit right now, and he's doin' what he can, kay? He's fightin' for his chances to be wit' ya."

"Is he okay, he never tells me anything! Have you seen him!?" her worried voice coming through, though an embarrassed happiness could also be heard.

"Trust me, he'd rather spend his time wit' you. So calm down, and next time you talk to him, remind him what he's comin' home to," Heiji consoled her.

Kazuha blushed at how personal Heiji was being. Even from where she was standing she could here Ran thank him happily as he hung up. Yet…

"Heiji, what the hell are you doing!?" she shrieked.

"What does it look like, stupid!? You were runnin' yer mouth about things ya don't understand!"

"Stupid!? You jerk!"

And the fight continues as usual…

Ran dialed Shinichi's number as soon as she hung up.

"Hey, Shinichi… I miss you, come home soon…"
