He stared at the ever changing fairy lights wrapped around the tree. He didn't know why humans were so fond of it. They looked nothing like stars or even fairies there. "Hey cyc cheer up!" Cyclops blinked at the sudden voice behind him. Out of a small, black cloud helcurt had appeared. He was grinning widely as he placed a little plant at the doorframe. "Perfect!" The small giant stared upwards. Another pointless tradition? It seemed as though Helcurt had heard his thoughts because he answered. "This is a mistletoe! And when two stand underneath it then..." He stopped. "Oh you will see." Would he? He hoped helcurt wouldn't get him to do something stupid.
Cyclops wondered for a second if shadowbringers had ever celebrated Christmas or even any festival of light as he watched the cat demon jump to make last minute adjustments to the pine tree. Helcurts tail curled in excitement then he grinned at his friend and disappeared as he heard a little clicking sound.
Cyclops blinked. "Do you need help?" "No, no I can carry it myself. Just settle at the table." Everything seemed so hectic, or maybe, cyclops thought, maybe Helcurt was just rather excited to have him over for the holidays. As he thought about it more he realized that the shadowbringer rarely seemed to hang out with anyone. Whether that was a sign that the trusted few or that few trusted him, cyclops couldn't figure out as Helcurt had suddenly reappeared. He was carrying two plates, filled to the brim with food. After setting them down, the cat too joined cyclops. On the plate there was duck, salads, sauce and a few other things where he wasn't quite sure whether they were shadowbringer or demon cuisine. Still, the feast looked lovely and so the small giant nodded to the widely grinning cat. "Thank you for the meal! I'm glad you invited me." "And I'm glad you came!" The other wiggles his ears contently and both started digging into their food.
It didn't take too long for both of them to finish their meals. Cyclops sighed, he might have eaten too much accidentally but it had tasted rather good. He'd never known that the other knew how to cook. Right now a nap would just have been perfect.
Helcurt however had no intent of giving his friend a break just yet. He jumped up and suddenly all the lights had been turned off. And then cyclops heard a little bell ring softly. And a second time. Then the lights of the stars and the softly blinking fairy lights reappeared to reveal Helcurt, holding a giftwrapped package before him. "I have two presents for you..." He placed it down softly. Afterwards he reached for cyclops hands. "And this is the second one." And pulled him underneath the mistletoe into a soft kiss. "Merry Christmas !"
