Jeremy came down the stairs on his phone. "Where are you guys? You should have been back by now." He stops suddenly when he sees a shadowy figure against the light from the kitchen.

He slowly closes his phone as the figure steps into the light, revealing Alaric. "Jeremy."

Anger crossed his face. "Look, haven't you done enough?" With a somewhat tired expression he asks, "And how did you even get in here?"

"I don't know. I just wanted to say good-bye and it kinda happened."

Confusion replaced his anger. "Ric?"

Alarics lips pulled back into a half-grin half-grimace. He steps closer to the boy he would have been glad to have called son. "I just want you to know, that I will always be here to look after you, Jeremy." He pauses. "But you'll never be alone." He smiles. "I promise."

Still unsure of the information, he turns his head slightly. "I don't understand..."

Alaric nods, and it seems to be enough for him. Realization hits. "Oh my god, you're a ghost." He suckes in a quick breath. "But if you're dead..."

Alaric quickly glances at the floor in defeat, then back up at him. He blamed himself for everything that happened, even if it was truly Esther's fault he had turned into a vampire.

"That means Elena-" He didn't get to finish his sentence as he ran out the door.

There was nothing he could do to save her, though. If Alaric showed up to him, then that was proof enough that Elena was gone. He wished Jer had realized that instead of running out; he could get hurt.

Alaric seemed to vanish, then, and arrived in a dark, misty place. The fog was a thick white, and there seemed to be shadowy shapes in the distance, but his sight was set on the person in front of him.

She was beautiful, even in the creepy, graveyard place. She seemed to shine, and Alaric couldn't take in anything else around him. He stared at her for a moment, not believing his eyes. When he saw her eyes start to water, he ran to her, and they embraced.

"Jenna," he whispered, with such relief that his eyes, too, stored tears. He patted her hair down as she sniffled. "I did so much harm," he told her, and she tightened her arms around him. "I had become the one thing I hated most."

She shushed him, pulling back. "I know." They stared into each others eyes, still holding one another.

"I missed you," he told her, placing his forehead against hers.

"I know."

He took a step back, looking her up and down. "Is this real?"

She smiled sadly. "All they have is eachother now."

Alaric frowned. Elena and Jeremy had no one now. It was all his fault. If he hadn't grown such a strong hate towards vampires...

He hugged Jenna again. Nothing else mattered in the world to him anymore. She was all he had now. Death wouldn't be so horrible with her next to him. They would get through it together. Forever.
