Author's Note: This was really fun to write, if not a bit challenging. The song that inspired it was "Come Away to the Water" by Maroon 5, which I would definitely recommend listening to if you haven't already. The scheme of the poem switches from Sebastian and Ciel's view, beginning with Sebastian and going back and forth after that. Sebastian's verses are 8, 10, 10, 8— Ciel's verses are 5, 5, 5, 5. Enjoy!
Content warning: Attempted suicide, death, near-drowning, Sebastian being a creepy siren.
Upon a rocky perch, he waits;
A boy of gems and wealth goes near his tide.
Those blue glitt'ring eyes are dark merfolk bait—
Sebastian has found a new bride.
• •
Conundrum of waves,
Cruel tempest of salt.
Sweet, sweet Ciel braves
The watery vault.
• •
"My darling, my sweet, I'll find you—
Beneath the froth and the swirl of pink pearls."
Ciel takes a step t'wards the wild sea blue.
A silhouette swims to the Earl.
• •
Ciel's fin'lly done it,
He's finally gone
Where water permits
Your death and your dawn.
• •
Clouds of lost air; twisting of limbs;
He's drowning, he is, he'll slip away soon;
Cloth churns in the water, silvery trim—
A kiss is shared under the moon.
• •
His life should be done.
It should have been quick.
He shouldn't have won—
Death's made a cruel trick.
• •
Lips so sweet, so plush, so divine!
Their mouths move like currents, twisting and wild;
Tongues that are hungry, thickly tasting of brine.
The siren held his bride, the child.
• •
A man with red eyes
Pulled him down again,
Ignored his soft cries,
To the siren's den.
• •
In the end, his struggle was meek.
The feasting was quick, a frenzy of sorts.
Ciel's soul was delicious— bitter, weak,
Painted with regret and remorse.
• •
Though not how he planned,
Ciel met his grave.
Upon the gold sand,
Lounged a sea knave.
• •
Now Sebastian had
His pretty young bride.
His prideful chest swelled
As he swam in the tide.
• •
That's their sad story
And that's how it went.
The Merman's glory
And the Earl's lament.
• •
La Fin.
