Weak Knees

By: Karasu Kyra

It was lunch time, the brunette boy remembered as he stared out of the window in his classroom. It was lunch time, naught but a few hours ago that he met him. He was a petite red-headed boy that didn't speak much. He remembered the boy's non-descript clothes and shoes for he'd commented on them, but, he suddenly realized, he didn't know the boy's eye color.

That led Neji to wonder why the eye-color of his newest friend mattered so much. A twinge inside of him reminded him exactlywhy it mattered. He was completely infatuated with the boy. He'd seen him just before class and his heart leapt to his throat seeing the shy boy's smile. He kept repeating the petite boy's name over and over again in his head. Gaara, he thought. It's such a nice name.

He started as the bell to let school out for the day rang. He gathered his books into his bag and made for his locker. After fishing out his homework and hastily shoving it into his bag and started drifting toward his best friend, Sasuke Uchiha's locker.

Sasuke wasn't there so the brunette boy kept his eyes open for him...and a certain red-head. Then, as he gazed at the lockers across from the set he was currently standing near, he saw Gaara! His heart raced again and he suddenly remembered that the petite teens' sides were ticklish. He made a split-second decision and quickly crossed the hall, slinging his bag over his shoulder.

He came up quietly behind the shorter boy and poked him in the sides. Gaara whipped his head around and smiled a little. "Hey," the boy said.

"Hey," greeted Neji. "Sorry, but I just had to."

The red-heads' smile grew wider. "Oh, that's okay. It's just, if you catch me off guard, I tend to hit and ask questions later."

The brunette grinned. "That's understandable."

"Yeah," Gaara said as he shut his locker, slinging his own bag over his shoulder. "So, do you ride a bus?"

"Mm-Hm."

"Well, I'll walk with you then."

As the two walked down the hall to the main doors, Neji was acutely aware of how close the petite teen walked next to him. A thrill ran through him as the boy brushed up against him in the crowded halls. Neji took a deep breath of fresh air as they exited.

"So, how come I've never seen you riding?" Gaara looked up at the brunette.

"I'm not sure. Which bus do you ride?" Neji glanced at the red-head.

"The first one," replied the petite boy.

"It would be because I ride the bus right behind that," said the milky-eyed boy.

"Oh, cool. I'll ride with you today then."

"Unless you'd prefer me to ride with you..." the brunette offered.

"No, no, I'll ride with you."

Neji climbed the steps to the bus once he was met with his. Behind him, Gaara followed closely. The brunette took an empty seat and watched the red-head pause then turn and look at him. "I'll even sit with you," he said as he slid into the seat.

For the busride down to the main buses, they talked about where Gaara worked and what he was saving money for. They continued the conversation on as they got off the bus. The two walked forward before Neji stopped in front of the next bus.

He turned to the red-head, who turned to him. Neji felt a funny feeling in his body, as if he couldn't support his weight. It got worse as Gaara's face came closer and closer to his as he was describing something. Neji noted he had green eyes.

The green-eyed boy then backed off and the two waved good-bye. Neji got onto his bus and sat down, staring out the window.

As the bus started moving he had one ironic thought, I now know what it feels to be weak in the knees.
