"It's over..."
The words spoken by someone to his left, at this point he was not sure who, echoed strangely in his head. Spinning fast in his mind and making him slightly dizzy.
'It's over...'
Such simple words by themselves but the tone of voice in which they were spoken could alter the meaning for better or worse. Such innocuous words they seemed almost inadequate considering what they were meant to signify in this moment.
Harry Potter heard the words and knew they were meant to be a great thing, he knew that they should bring nothing short of awe upon all those who heard them.
He knew the words were meant to bring relief, pride, joy and many other wonderful things to his heart. But... Harry felt none of that.
'It's over'
Harry had hoped once those words were spoken he would feel all those things and maybe more. He had hoped to feel as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders, he had hoped to feel...free.
But he didn't.
Angry tears gathered in his eyes as he clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. This was it? All these years and the only thing he could feel was anger, pain and resentment? It's not what he wanted to feel and it certainly isn't how he expected to feel. But he supposed it was what he should feel given the circumstances.
His striking green eyes surveyed the battle ground around him, littered with bodies of both his enemies and his allies. Behind him he knew the once formidable castle that he had called home laid in ruin, half the castle obliterated completely by the first wave of Death eaters to attack, and the other half barely standing.
So many people had lost their lives during the course of this war, muggles and wizards alike. And now he was dead, struck down by a well placed curse from Harry, and the world was free to rejoice.
'It's over'
Choking back a sob Harry fell to his knees. What was there to be happy about? What possible reason could he have to smile these days? So Voldemort's army was dead; who cares. So are most my friends he thought bitterly. A single tear fell from his eye as he thought of those he had lost due to this war.
So many people he had loved or cared about, all dead because of this war. He would never hear Sirius's carefree laugh again, or be scolded by Tonks when he called her by her dreaded first name. Dumbledore would never look at him with that knowing twinkle in his eyes, and Fred would never make him laugh again.
So many others gone as well and so many other little things he would forever miss. But worst of all, the deepest pain he felt was that of his lost love.
'It's over'
He would never again see her long blonde hair dance around her as she skipped to class, or hear her joyful laughter. Her beautiful smile that eased his pain and fear was forever gone, and he would never hear her endearing tales of odd creatures nobody else believed existed.
Her eyes, her beautiful silver eyes he would never again look into. Her eyes that if you looked hard enough you could see straight into her soul with. The only girl he had ever loved. His soul mate.
A sob finally broke through his exterior and he buried his face in his hands as he let the tears flow freely.
He felt Hermione and Ron move to either side of him, each placing a comforting hand on his shoulders.
"Did you hear me, Harry?" Hermione asked gently, "It's over..."
As his tears continued Harry came to the horrible realization that for him, it would never be truly over.
