I didn't mean to hurt him…I mean, it just happened so quickly…and it was a blur…The only real thing I can recall is him, standing there, watching us, watching me…and his tears. I made him cry.
Heh, you're wondering what happened, aren't you?
I guess I should start, at the beginning of the school year. No…farther back. Back into summer, back into that wonderful, amazing, breathtaking summer, when everything changed. When I changed, and I was no longer a good girl. At least, I wasn't a good girl when summer ended and school started.

May
I remember it like it was yesterday. A calm, warm May morning, when I woke up and smelled the crisp, salty, flowery island scent. Everything was bright – the sun wasn't bright and hot, and there was a slight breeze. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and it was just beautiful. I remember my window flying open, and me looking out the window, wind whipping my hair into my face. It was the first day of summer, the first real day of my life. I remember him coming to my door, ringing the bell at least ten times. I opened the door to see his bright smiling face.
And then I remembered. Today was the day we were to go to the other island, just spend the week there, no going back, just staying there, catching our own food, building our own fires, sleeping under the stars.
"You ready?" he asked, a bit too enthusiastic. But I smiled and nodded and went to grab my bags, slightly heavy, but I managed. We made our way to the dock, and set our luggage in our boats, and set off, just the two of us. When we got there, he had suggested we make camp. I suggested just sleeping in the tree house.
"No! C'mon! We have to sleep under the stars!"
"Technically, we are going to sleep under the stars. Just with a roof over our heads!" I said, and laughed at his expression, dumbfounded.
"Kairi…" he started, and I smiled back at him.
"Okay. We'll sleep 'natural'." I said, and a smile broke out over his face.
"Great! I'll get the stuff!" he said, and ran over to the boats, soon coming back with the bags. "There! Hey, Kairi?" he said, looking over at me, and I looked over at him.
"Hm? What is it?" I asked, a little spaced out. He looked worried, and I waved him off. "It's nothing. Just…remembering…" I said, my smile fading only a bit, but he caught it.
"There's something wrong."
"No! No, really!" I said, and a frown replaced the smile.
"There's something wrong," he repeated, and I shook my head.
"Just…leave it? Please?" I said, and he frowned a bit more, but sighed, apparently giving up.
"Okay. But, Kairi…"
"Hm?"
"I'm always here. You know that, right?" he said, and walked over to me. He set a hand on my shoulder and I jumped slightly. "Just…know that I'm here. If you want to talk."
"Yeah…" I said, and turned around, clapping my hands together. "Hey, ready to set up camp?" I asked, my demeanor changing in a split second. A smile made its way onto his face, and he nodded.
"Of course!"
