Okay this little idea hit me after watching Buffy on DVD...LOL

I do not own Naruto

Practicality

Ayame of the ramen noodle stand watched once again as the little boy she has come to adore gets beaten for something he can not control.

Die Demon!

Giving a look of irritation as her last straw has been reached the dark haired young woman wades into that crowd to protect the child. Her father watching gets a small smile on his face and shakes his head.

"They asked for this..."

"HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!"

"Stay out of this wench! The demon needs to die for what he did!"

Bristling at the comment, Ayame makes a fist and lets it swing. The man flying almost six feet shakes his jaw as the others in the mob watch in amazement. Still another steps forward to threaten the young woman.

"Listen that demon needs to die!"

"Funny that I don't think he does considering he isn't a demon!" Ayame states loudly and for all to here. Many surge forward to protest her bold words.

"Yeah right he killed my husband!"

"My entire clan died because of that demon!"

"You claim all because of this demon right?" Ayame says quietly as the fervor dies down.

"Right..."

"Then If I was this said demon, and you were beating me and throwing rocks and stuff at me. What would stop me from killing you?" The dark haired girl asked with a practical tilt to her head. Because the moment her words were uttered a lot of people in the mob, including the ones who incited it stop to think.

Still a few persist not willing to listen...

"She's possessed by the demon!"

"Don't listen to her!"

Ayame efficiently diffuses that statement next with one of her own. "All right if I am possessed by the demon, why doesn't he have me kill you?"

Over and over for several minutes statements are thrown and Ayame's sensible and practical nature emerges. The mob is slowly regretting its actions and even one approaches the cowering little boy, who clutches onto her hand to seek forgiveness.

"This boy is not the demon." Ayame said softly as she picked up the 5 year old blonde. "If he was, the demon or controlled, out history states, that it wouldn't hesitate to come out right and kill us regardless of the seal or what not. Would you really allow the Yondaime's sacrifice to be in vain?"

"No..." Came from several villagers, their scars evident on their faces, Ayame can not help as still some clutch their weapons as if needing to take things out on something.

"Naruto is not the monster...we are..."

Those words clinched it and many of the villagers of Konoha left the little boy alone, in Ayame's arms. The young woman smiling gently as she takes him back to the stand, she dotes upon him, to clean him up as her father prepares a thick ramen noodle soup for him.

The three never noticing the solitary ANBU who had been prepared to leap in and save the youth, despite a reluctance to.

Never noticed how he left and her words sank into him. Spreading it among the others, many a shinobi who had felt like the villagers asked their families the same things. Each one diffused by a repeat of her statements.

If the little blonde boy was truly the demon, he would never have allowed himself to be beaten and killed. The demon they all know of and thought the boy was.

Would not have hesitated to lash out in revenge...

Naruto Uzamaki was not a demon or a monster, he was a hero.

They were the demon...
