more than broken, he is alone.

- (500) days of summer (2009)

Jinora dies like wind on a hot summer's day. Too quickly and leaving Kai confused and disoriented.

The girl who falls through the cracks of ground is not the Jinora that Kai remembers, but her kisses and her touch from the previous night playing through his head are certainly Jinora.

Kai remembers Pema's scream, Rohan's wails, Ikki's sobs, Meelo's shuddering breaths, Tenzin's face.

He remembers the blood on his hands and Mako grabbing him by the arms, his tall but slender frame too weak to support the thrashing boy.
"She's not dead!" he yells, his voice too loud in the small room. She is seventeen with airbending tattoos and prettypretty dark hair.

Was.

Jinora is not ten anymore. She doesn't chase after Spirits or read books under the stars. She doesn't kiss Kai's nose every morning or squeeze his hand beneath tables.

Mako says nothing, merely clutches Kai close, while Kai screams on the top of his lungs and the words that come out of his mouth will not be like "No, no, don't go!" but more of a garbled mess that resembles something like 'Jinora'.

Although it might also be 'I love you'.

For two things that sound nothing alike, they definitely mean the same thing.

Author's Note: Well.

This was originally a Bolinora fic, but considering they just brought the exact replica of Bolin to be around Jinora's age, why not. Also, Opal and Bolin? Does nobody see these similarities?
