Wow it's been forever since I posted/wrote something. Anyways, finals are almost done and I don't give a flip anymore and Agents of SHIELD is my newest obsession that I don't own so don't sue me Marvel I can't afford it. This is basically an expansion on a headcanon I have about how any nightmares May has had of Bahrain have changed since Skye came into her powers. Takes place before she goes to the cabin in the woods but after Sif loses her memory. Enjoy.

She's had this dream before. This time, it was different.

"give me your pain"

She's scrambling back, until her hand hits something. "just…stop. Please, put your hand down, and stop."

The girl grinned, "take my hand."

She grasps the metallic handle of the gun. "It's going to be alright."

She closes her eyes and shoots.

She opens them to see not the little girl, but-

"Skye!" she breathes.

Her mouth is open in horror as red blossoms from her chest.

Melinda is just able to catch her as she falls.

She's trying to breathe but no breath is coming to either of them.

"Skye – oh god, I-I-!"She's cradling her in her arms now, one hand supporting her head, the other trying to stop the bleeding.

"Skye, I-I'm sorry, I-" but she knows no excuse can be made.

"M-M-May-" Skye sputters, her hand reaching up to touch the one at her chest.

And then she's still, eyes open and frozen in fear.

Melinda's heart stops. "No" she breathes over and over, rocking her lifeless protégé back and forth.

"No!"

"No…" May groans as she jolts up from the nightmare. She sighs jarringly as her hands rub the sleep out of her eyes. She looks at the clock. 5:30 AM.

She sighs again. The dream of Bahrain has always been a recurring nightmare, but it had been appearing more in Melinda's subconscious ever since Skye's powers had been revealed. Tonight, however, was the first time Skye had been on the other end of the gun.

Pushing back the covers, she got up and got dressed to do her daily tai-chi work out, and headed not for the gym but for the BUS. If she had had any effect on her protégé, then she'd probably be up already doing the morning routine without her.

Knocking on the door of the cell before entering, she finds Skye already doing the motions.

"Hey, you're late!" she half-scolds.

"My alarm clock didn't go off," she lies, and picks up where Skye left off.
