"In a world like this, how did you do it?"

Dominique looks up, staring unflinchingly at her siblings. It had been Louis that had spoken, and he stares at her, looking so much like their mother that Dom is momentarily thrown. She blinks at him.

"What?"

Victorie rolls her eyes. "Honestly, do you ever listen?"

"No, not to you two idiots," she doesn't miss a beat.

It is Louis' turn to roll his eyes. "You're impossible. Why do we even talk to you?"

She shrugs and looks back down at her magazine, propping her feet on the table as she turns the page. "We're related; you have no choice."

"Bitch."

"What was your original question again?"

"He asked how you did it," Victorie snaps, clearly fed up with listening to them.

Dom looks up again and gazes lazily at her younger brother, who begins to squirm under her gaze after a minute. "Did what?" she finally questions.

Louis gestures helplessly to her hand. "Get engaged," he says, like he can't believe it.

He likely can't. She looks at the diamond on her left hand, eyes softening. Sophie was really quite the doll. "Some girls just can't resist my good looks, my style and my charm, and my unflinching ability to listen to Taylor Swift," she informs him haughtily, clicking her tongue as she moves her eyes from her engagement ring. She'd even gotten one before Victorie, which really was a victory. Teddy was too slow.

"Your unflinching ability…? Never mind. I don't want to know," Louis drags out the first half of his sentence, before hurrying to say that he didn't want to know. Dom snickers under her breath.

"Likely not," she says, and Louis groans, obviously knowing where his elder sister's mind is.

"Shut up, shut up, shut up, Dom."

"What did you mean by 'A world like this?'" Dom asks suddenly, startling Louis.

He frowns, his brows furrowing, before he grins in triumph. "So you do listen!"

She tuts. "Of course not, stupid. I hear. It only registers later," she explains.

"Bullshit," he says easily, still grinning at her.

She rolls her eyes. "Never you mind. What had you meant?"

Louis drops the grin and his eyes move upwards as he thinks back. "Homophobia," he finally settles on.

"Not everyone is a stuck up bigot," she says.

"Guess not," he agrees slowly. "Still weird."

"Everyone is weird," she claims, "just some people embrace it while other hide from it and that makes the difference in social standing."

"You're inspirational when you're not spewing verbal bullshit," Louis compliments.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome, Ms. Verbal Bullshit."

She rolls her eyes again and laughs quietly while Louis starts grinning once more.
