The Little Moments
Kratos could still remember when he first held the tiny infant in his arms and the strangle hold of the warm feelings that had weld up in him. He remembered sitting by Anna's bedside as she and the little infant slept and the need to protect them weld up deep and imbedded itself into his very soul that night. He vowed to always protect the little infant that slept so innocently in his arms.
His little Son.
Lloyd.
Kratos smiled fondly as he watched Lloyd sleep, something that he hadn't done in almost fourteen years, and leaned against the window seal of their room. He sighed as he looked out towards the starry sky away from his only son that he'd have to betray in a short number of months. He'd watch over him from a far, and never tell Lloyd the truth about who he is.
He promised himself that much.
He didn't want to burden his son with the feelings of having your father betray you and your friends.
He rolled his eyes with a fond smile on his face as he watched the boy flop to the ground in exhaustion from their latest bout of training. He watched as the boy looked up at the stars, not really looking at him, but not willing to break the calm silence yet. "Kratos…"
"Hm." He raised his eyes to the stars, so that the boy wouldn't notice him staring.
"I lied when I said I don't remember anything from back then…" Lloyd sighed as he reached his hand up towards the stars. "I remember my father always talking to me about the stars. Even though I can't remember what he looks like. I remember that much." Kratos felt something in his chest tighten as he watched Lloyd shake his head and sit up. "Sorry, I know it's weird, but I feel like I can tell you anything."
He felt even worse when Lloyd smiled at him before getting up to get back to camp.
Lloyd wasn't sure exactly how to react to being told that the one that had betrayed them all was his father. His feelings were mixed from the warm and safe feelings that the man had given him during the journey to the cold and harsh ones of the betrayal at the end of the journey. He looked at the back of the man that he'd longed to meet and have met. He knew that his first question should have been the obvious "why didn't you tell me?" but he couldn't even bring himself to ask that.
He felt completely twisted up inside as he paused next to the man in the snow. "Kratos…I…" He paused as the man turned and looked at him. He knew he felt angry, betrayed, and hurt, but he also knew that he could forgive him for it all, because Kratos had been helping them out from the very start. The others might have mentioned it being weird, but it felt normal to him. "I forgive you. I know that you are trying to help us out, but why won't you join us?"
His father looked slightly startled, then smiled softly at him. "You've grown."
