Tatsumi
Even the strongest warriors had their weaknesses.
Tatsumi Oga never cowered in the face of danger, not even in the face of death. He never hesitated to take down his enemies. He never thought twice about harming those who he deemed evil (or just annoying), even at the cost of harming himself.
But even with all these characteristics, Tatsumi Oga, like any warrior, also had a weakness.
This weakness of his was enough to knock him out cold. In fact, just a hint of his weakness was enough to give him a bloody nose. It was the only thing in the world that could make him uncomfortable and lose his composure.
His weakness? Romance. Love.
And unfortunately, his weakness had taken in a human form.
The said human form of his weakness was a voluptuous, blonde demon maid who may as well be the queen of all ice queens given the permanent cold expression she always had on her pretty face, under normal circumstances.
Under those normal circumstances, it was easy for Oga to keep his composure around his weakness. It was easy to act cool to that Hilda he knew who treated him like dirt, like a creature lesser than an earthworm. That Hilda he knew was strong like steel, colder than ice.
That Hilda he knew was aware that she was nothing more than a pretend-wife to Oga.
But this wasn't a normal circumstance. This wasn't the Hilda he knew.
This Hilda just had all her memories burned away. This Hilda knew nothing about Baby Beelzebub (her reason for living) and the circumstance that she was currently in with Oga and the rest of the earthlings. This Hilda treated Oga like a real human being, like he was someone actually worthy of respect.
This Hilda was warm, kind, and had a light in her eyes that Oga had never seen before.
This Hilda was happy.
And this Hilda was just informed by his (stupid) family that she was his real wife and Baby Beelze was their real child.
And she believed them.
Put Oga in a physical fight, and he will surely win. Put him in the dining room with his inquisitive family who thinks he's married and has a baby with the utterly clueless but happy demon maid, and he will be rendered completely defenseless.
But as defenseless and uncomfortable this situation made him, Oga Tatsumi, oddly enough, was not as bothered by it as much as he had expected. No, Hilda calling her by his first name wasn't as bothersome as he had thought it would be. Seeing Hilda and Baby Beelze happy made it easier for him to accept the situation. The fact that Hilda's cooking got better was just the icing on the cake.
He found that it wasn't really bothered at all, until Hilda, wearing a light pink nightgown with her hair golden hair cascading loosely down her back, asked him a question that he hoped would never be asked by her, of all people.
"What is it about me that you don't like?"
Perhaps it was the innocent look on her face, or the softer tone of her voice, or the proximity of her body to his. But for the first time, in the face of an adversary, Oga Tatsumi raised the white flag.
Feeling feverish all of a sudden, Oga Tatsumi ran away.
He ran away as fast as he could and only slowly came to a stop when he felt that feverish feeling of his encounter with his weakness disappear.
In the bank of the river where he first met Baby Beelze, he sat on the grass and allowed the night air to cool his hot skin. There, Oga Tatsumi allowed himself to recollect himself and answer the question Hilda had just asked.
I don't like that you're my weakness.
What Oga Tatsumi failed to realize that night was that his weakness was also his source of strength.
Fin.
