The Sun Goes Out
By: Tanner Dunlap
I am Tanner Dunlap. I have a mother, father, and sister. My mom, Susan, is 38; my dad, Gary, is 52; my sister, Trisha, is 25. I am 13 and 5'5" tall. I am as tall as my sister. This is my story.
It was a nice, sunny day in Edmond, Oklahoma, on February 24, 2002. I was riding my bike back from my girlfriend's house. She is Anime Viper. When I got home there was a moving truck in front of my house. I had just left my house three hours before, and everything was already packed up. I had no idea we were moving, and the first thought that went through my mind was that I was at the wrong house. I looked at the street name and then at the house address. It was the right house at 24 Victory Lane.
When I got to the house I looked inside and everything was gone. Then my dad walked in and said, "Let's get in the car." I said, "Okay." Our car was the new Racer Cobra 9000 flying car. The car had 1500 horsepower and could hold eight people. My mom, dad, and sister were already in the car.
When I got in the car my dad handed me a letter and said, "Read this." This is what the letter read:
Dear Tanner,
The sun is about to go out because a comet is going to hit the sun in a dead spot. When the comet hits the dead spot, the sun will split in half and go out. All of your belongings will be put on a ship the size of Texas along with thirty-three other families. We will have one extra compartment so for the thirty-fifth family we chose Anime Viper and her family. We thought this would make it easier on you and Anime. All the families
will live on the huge ship for two years. You and your family will be in Room #1 and Anime and her family will be in Room #2. Two days before the comet hits the sun, all thirty-five families will be on the ship and be launched toward a star we think people can live on. The ship will leave on June 17, 2002. All families must be on the ship four months before June 17 so that all can get familiar with the ship. Good luck.
U. S. Government
After I read the letter I said, "We leave on my birthday! That is so cool!" My dad replied, "Yes, I guess that is really neat." Then my dad started the engine, and we headed off to the Pacific Ocean. We were the first ones there and, to my surprise, Anime Viper landed thirty minutes after us. It was only 2,500 miles to where the ship was located, and the speed limit was 500 miles per hour. It only took us five hours to get there. It was three weeks before anyone else arrived.
While we were waiting for everyone else to arrive we jet skied, tubed, water-skied, scuba dived, and sky dived. Every now and then the government took us back to land so we could surf, but we only surfed five times. One day it rained, so we toured the ship. There was a huge wave pool for surfing, swimming, scuba diving, jet skiing, and snorkeling, which I was very happy about.
