Bliss
She sat on the towel that he'd laid out for her and watched him move with greedy eyes.
Felicity still couldn't believe that it was all real. She'd been expecting to wake up from the most vivid dream of her life at any moment. Because it had to be a dream. Her Oliver wouldn't be on a public beach with her, hundreds of miles from Starling City, enjoying the warmth of spring in southern California. But he was. He was coming out of the water, scrubbing a hand over his newly shorn hair, and grinning at her like he didn't have a care in the world. She was still expecting the bubble of bliss to pop.
"Are you going to get in?"
Oliver dropped to his knees on the towel beside hers and uncapped his water. She watched his Adam's apple bo as he gulped it down.
"Nope."
She popped the 'p' on purpose and grinned at him from behind her sunglasses.
"What's the point of coming to the beach if you aren't even going to enjoy the ocean?" he asked.
He leaned back on his elbows and tipped his face to the sun.
She shrugged, "I am enjoying it. Looking at it. Smelling it. Admiring its beauty. I don't need to get wet to enjoy myself, Oliver."
He peered at her for a minute before her brain caught up to what she'd just said. She groaned.
"I think I've gotten too much sun. My brain is melting."
The grin that he gave her was salacious and her cheeks grew warm.
"You look beautiful, Felicity," he told her, his voice warm and low and meant for her alone, "The sun looks good on you."
She shook her head, "Don't even think about it, Oliver! We've been holed up in the hotel for two days. I need fresh air."
He laughed, the sound still so foreign that it left her momentarily stunned, and she watched him with wide, wonder-filled eyes. It was weird to think that, only a week earlier, she'd been broken by the thought that she'd lost him forever.
"I wouldn't dream of taking away any opportunity to see you in that suit."
She glanced down at the red bikini that she wore. It had been a quick purchase in the hotel gift shop. In her haste to pack, she hadn't thought to grab one of the dozen that she had at home. It wasn't what she would normally purchase for herself but the color had called to her. As had the fact that the scraps of material left little to the imagination. She'd been excited to model it for him. And she had. Which was why they hadn't left the hotel for two days.
She squirmed a little at the memory.
"Well, I appreciate that, Mr. Queen. Seeing that we'll be leaving in the morning, this really is my only opportunity to show it off."
"We can stay longer if you want."
She shook her head, "No, I think it's time to move on. There are a lot of other places I want to see."
They'd been on the road for four days, three of which they'd spent along the Pacific coast. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate relaxing on the beach (or in an ocean front hotel suite with a view) but she had a bucket list for this road trip and they were just getting started. She already had their next destination mapped out.
Setting her tablet aside, Felicity crawled over to Oliver's towel and straddled his waist. He lay back, his hands coming to rest on her hips, and she leaned over him. Her hair fell in a curtain around them.
"Hi."
"Hi."
"Can I tell you something?" she whispered.
Oliver nodded, "Of course."
"I'm happy."
He chuckled, his hands suddenly on her face as he pulled her down to kiss him.
"Me, too."
She grinned, "Can I tell you something else?"
He nodded again.
"I love you."
He smiled. It was that soft shy smile that he seemed to reserve specifically for her and it made her heart race.
"I love you, too, Felicity. You've made me so happy."
