"Was my performance…satisfactory?" the A.I asked, her tone almost hesitant. Samantha smiled, and gave a simple nod.

"Most satisfactory," she replied. "Though I would just love to know where you picked up certain…techniques."

"You have Jeff's private vid selection to thank for that," EDI said, before frowning to herself. "That was…not the appropriate response, was it?"

"Not exactly," Samantha said, quirking an eyebrow. "But I'll let you off." She reached out and gently stroked her fingers along EDI's shoulder, continuing down her arm before letting her hand drop. As it had been the previous evening, the synthetic surface was surprisingly warm to the touch. "I just wish I could return the favour…"

"While this body has tactile sensors, there are no erogenous zones that I am aware of," EDI stated, her voice becoming business-like – as it always did while discussing something technical. "However, I…"

She looked away, her brow knitted together in another frown. Samantha couldn't help but marvel at small moments like this; seeing the A.I unsure of what to say, or appearing embarrassed, was still a bizarre experience. Unshackled from all possible programmed restrictions and laws, EDI was rapidly developing into a true individual. The possibility that the A.I had something resembling a soul – even an artificial one – was becoming more and more likely, and the implausibility of it all still baffled the Comm Specialist. Though, she reminded herself, it was only because of that possibility that she had even entertained the idea of a relationship. As attractive as she had found EDI beforehand, the possibility of an actual fully-fledged relationship between them had only opened within her mind after she had been convinced – consciously or otherwise – that EDI's feelings were real, and not simply simulations based on observations of humans.

She blinked, having become rather lost within her own thoughts while waiting for EDI to continue; the A.I still looked somewhat unsure.

"EDI?" she asked gently, bringing her hand up again and this time letting it rest upon a synthetic shoulder.

"It is difficult to put into words," the A.I replied, and this time Samantha was positive there was nervousness within her voice. "While this body has no capacity for sexuality, when you…kiss me, I feel…" She looked up at the brunette, and gave a tiny smile. "…good. I feel good."

"You only had to ask," Samantha replied with a smile of her own, leaning over and meeting EDI's lips. As with the rest of her body, looks were deceiving; they appeared cold and lifeless, and yet when Samantha closed her eyes, EDI could just as easily have been human.

After a few moments, she pulled away, and her smile only grew when she saw the way EDI's lips remained parted, artificial eyes half-closed and her expression one of satisfaction.

Not human. But close enough.
