"The world can't be that small," Elena utters.
It took her two weeks to get squeezed into a Zumba class she heard is the best in L.A. and it had to be taught by the one guy she wants to avoid. The same guy with clothes on flasher than hers; she wonders why is he even wearing a short sleeve vest with no shirt under.
"Are you ready for Dee Jay?"
As he ran in place, backup dancers and a light show appear.
"What kind of class is this?"
She looks around and she sees everyone getting pumped as Don Omar by Danza Kuduro featuring Lucenzo is getting played loudly on the speakers.
"He would pick this song."
"Ready to do this," Dee Jay yells, addressing the class but then smiles at her when he spots her in the middle row; his smile advertised recognition, she hopes her slanted eyes advertised disgust.
"Oh God," she says to herself as the class claps and applause.
"Shake any negativity off that you've been building all day, because you're in Dee Jay's class!"
"What kind of Zumba class is this," she thought as they danced in place with him.
"Push…warm it up…ok, countdown…6-5-4-3-2-1! Stretch it out!"
Dee Jay has them quick versions of popular dance moves: getting low, the stanky leg, and the Superman.
"When does the Zumba portion of the class begin?"
She gets shushed.
"Looking good…ok, here…we…go!"
Dee Jay has them basic Zumba moves but at fast speeds, but just as she thinks he's finally starting to run a Zumba class he starts to walk around the class. While the backup dancers direct the class, he compares arm muscles or to do playful hip pumps with the more elder members; even as an instructor he's still an entertainer.
As the backup dancers starts instruct the class to do more advanced moves, he snakes behind her. "Amazing job you guys, but for you lightweights, if you're feeling tired just slow down."
She pushes him back and tries to stomp on his toes but misses, but the message received; lightweight but powerful. She looks at him hoping to invoke fear but he only smiles with indifference and moves on.
The anger that is building up inside her is almost making her blind. As a stress release she imagines throwing something at him.
"Remember, listen to your body!"
Her body is telling her to kick him; again and again and again.
The hour passes but she didn't realize until the light show stops and everyone applauds. She's resting her hands on her sweat soaked hips. She feels drained having kicked harder than normal as she pictured hurting Dee Jay that would be considered illegal if uttered. And yet, she feels less tensed and all the anger is gone.
"How do you feel," Dee Jay yells at the class.
She watches as the class applauds with their remaining energy. She sees the reason for his antics, they are having fun. And be it fun or anger, it made the time go faster. She had to admit, he's smarter than he looks.
"Who loves you and who do you love?"
"Dee Jay," everyone but her in the class yells.
She still wants to hurt him.
The End
