A tall thin man, adorned in a long black cloak and carrying a small parcel, makes his way up a hill covered in buttercups. His destination is the tree at the very top of this hill. The tree is a gorgeous one, a strong oak tree with long, study branches. In the warm August air, the leaves sway slightly in the breeze. The man makes his way to the top, and stops to place his parcel carefully on the ground. He then crouches in front of a stone to gaze at the flowers growing at the stone's head. Beautiful hibiscus of reds, whites and yellow grow in a happy bunch, yet the look upon the man's face is one of sadness. He leans forward to inhale the sweet scent of the flowers, his long black hair skimming the petals as if he wanted to tickle them. The man then turns his attention to the rock on the ground. A somewhat smooth rock, about as big as a loaf of bread. H.G. is carved on this rock in what seems like flawless calligraphy. The man rests his hand on this rock for a moment and lets out a long sigh before sitting down next to the stone. He tilts his head back and enjoys the suns radiant beams on his face. The man then turns to his parcel. Upon unwrapping it, he pulls out half a loaf of bread, a wedge of cheese, a chunk of meat and a bottle of wine. A delicious meal to enjoy on such a pleasant day. As the man prepares to enjoy his meal, he turns his attention to the stone once more. He closes his eyes as he remembers her warm voice, her crisp tone.
Not too long ago, they both sat on this hill together. It wasn't a happy moment like this one, but a moment of fear and sadness. Together they stood at the top of this hill, under this very tree. The girl stood in front of her love, her amber eyes staring into his dark eyes. She took a deep breath to steady her nerves. She felt fear, not only for herself, but for her love. She knew there wasn't much more time left before it would begin. She opened her mouth to speak in her melodic, beautiful voice.
"Remember when I told you how my
kin is different in some ways?
And how you should not fall in love
with someone like me, anyway...
Between the lines, people see signs
When they feel the sear, every day's fear...
and one night their torches
find the girl without a name...
And the one who has her
love is no more safe..."
The man's eyes then open and a tear trickles down his cheek. He states one phrase as he remembers the events that took place one month ago.
"And until I get my peace I'm but a shade..."
