Takes place after the show where Dave has to tell the hockey kid that he's dieing. I have no Idea which episode it is, all I know that he also fixes Weavers car.
Disclaimer: Not mine except the baby he's mine, everybody else is those dudes ya know.
A promise.
Dave looked at his son. What if he got cancer? What would he do? How would he act? Would it kill his son? Would it kill him? He didn't want to see the kid's face when he was told that he was going to die, he didn't want to see the pain in his eyes.
The kid was so young, and he was going to die. Hell there was so much that kid would never be able to do. Drive, drink, have a girl friend, have a family. It couldn't be fair that the kid was dieing before he got to do anything with his life. What kind of god would do that? What kind of god would take a child back before he had a chance to live?
Maybe God saw the kid's future and didn't think he should live through that and decided to show mercy. That was probably what happened, that's probably what always happened when kids died. He hoped his son wouldn't die before him, he hoped his son would out live him.
What the kid's parents had to be going through right now. He couldn't imagine it, how could he? All he could do was fear it, and do everything in his power not to let it happen. He was a doctor wasn't he? He would be able to notice if anything was wrong way before it got that deadly, wouldn't he?
The mom must be feeling so guilty for not knowing that the kid's cancer was back. How was she taking it? How would he take it? Could he handle it? Probably not, probably start throwing stuff around or something.
Of course she had already gone through it once, she had already felt the fear of losing her son. She had already known the pain that accompanied the knowledge. Now she was probably kicking herself for letting herself think that the cancer was gone. She was probably crying right now with her son in her arms running her hands through his hair.
How could someone live through that? He couldn't he knew he couldn't. He couldn't be strong for someone when he knew there was such a little chance that they were going to live. He couldn't do it; there was no way. He had almost broken down in front of the kid and his mother than Weaver barged in and made him keep his composure.
He wish he could thank Weaver for barging in like that, but if he did she would look at him weird and know something was wrong. They already all thought so lowly of him, he didn't want them think any lower of him. "Hey kid, I won't let you get sick like that kid did, and I'll make sure you have a happy life so there's no reason for God to make you sick like that. I'll make sure you happy so God doesn't have to worry about you, so he don't have to worry that you might have a bad life. I promise little man."
The end.
