A/N: Written for the A Prompt Per Pokemon Challenge, Lanturn B - on land (setting) and no letter "y" (restriction). The no letter "y" was tricky (haha, used it right there), but I checked with search and there aren't any in the fic itself. Though that meant foregoing usual instinctive grammar a little so some of the wording is going to be a little awkward…
Floating on Land with a Current
Lanturns weren't the most mobile water Pokemon on land, but there were methods available to them to adapt like others…except perhaps the Magikarp. At worst, the malleable blue bodies could drag themselves through sand or grass. At best, the Lanturns could gain mastership over electrical currents and sort of hover a couple of centimetres over the ground, or use an attack to drag them forward or create a more amiable field for them.
The Lanturns were one of the few water species that could master electric currents, which gave them a distinct advantage. Because their insulated bodies weren't vulnerable to the electrical currents that ran through the ground and up poles and could at random times snatch them like livewires and shock them. As part electric Pokemon themselves, the Lanturns had evolved to be resistant to those currents. And hovering using those currents was far less exerting than using full blown attacks: things like surf or ice beam or shock wave that cost more power and strength than it appeared.
And the Lanturns had to adapt to the land, in this age where such a number of them, and other species, were under the ownership of humans, and used for battles and contests and all those things that couldn't take place with enough water to recreate their habitats. And that was fine, because there wasn't much electric current to be had underwater and little to no sun. The Lanturns had grown fond of things like that. But the Lanturns still sometimes wished their bodies had grown more accustomed as well: grown little legs perhaps, so it wasn't essential for them to drag themselves through the land or hover, but instead walk like the humans beside them and such a number of the other Pokemon species in their world.
