Teddy Lupin
The orphan Metamorphmagus
He can look however he wants
But he can never be anyone but himself
No one ever seems to realize that
It's always
"Can you change to look like this or that?"
It's so much that he doesn't feel very special
Not when people always want to see someone else

They say that too much change is a bad thing
Teddy guesses that the saying doesn't apply to him
Heck, why should it
He was born with the ability to change his appearance to his satisfaction
No one seems to care about how he feels regardless
They always assume he's just not in the mood

There's one person who knows the truth
One person who hates it when he 'changes'
There's one person who never asks him to
That one person who's been at Teddy's side for years
Teddy's tie to reality
James S. Potter
An ordinary wizard

People assume he's nothing special
He's only the Chosen One's son and nothing else
He's not nearly as entertaining as Teddy
Teddy never notices him when there's others around
Hardly ever does
He barely does when James decides to tell Teddy about himself
Something that no one bothers to pay attention to

"You'll always be yourself, Teddy."
He whispers it like he wants no one else to hear
It's not like anyone would understand anyway
It wasn't them who watched Teddy ruin himself
But, of course, not even Teddy noticed
Teddy never paid attention
Not to the things that hurt him nor the things that helped him
Still, James decides he'll explain just this once

"No matter how many times you change how you look
You'll always be you
You'll always be Teddy Lupin
And that's okay because I love you most
There's no one like you
Why would you want to be a useless clone of someone else?
Especially when I only love you
You once told me
'The best part of being a Metamorphmagus is…
It's knowing you'll always go back to being yourself.'"

Then James leaves him to think it over
He leaves him to get what's right and what's wrong
It's a matter of being able to trust
And it takes Teddy days to realize what James means
It takes him too long to understand, to figure out
James loves him
James thinks he's special

He remembers the times James said he hated when Teddy 'changed'
All the times he looked so disappointed when Teddy looked different
Then there were the times when James was actually happy
The times that Teddy enjoyed the most
They all included James
They all included Teddy being himself
No one else but himself

So when he finally pieces it together
He thanks James and shows him how special he is
No matter what other people say
No matter what other people think
There's more to James than being someone's son
He's also Teddy's boyfriend
His lover
His best friend
The reason why he loves being Teddy Lupin
His tie to reality
