No… no, it's not. It's the best for you, I said. I wiped my eyes furiously, trying to stop the tears that were beginning to overflow.

You gave me an apologetic half-smile and a small hug. You said, we can still be friends.

And I nodded, knowing you would never talk to me again.

You drove away with your new boyfriend and I was left to collapse in a ball on my front yard and cry.

I stayed up late that night, eyes red and bloodshot. I hugged my knees to my chest and stroked my ex-girlfriend's cat, Crookshanks. I choked up at the thought of you and your new boyfriend. I thought about the time we went to the park together and sat on the swings and spilled our secrets. I thought about the time for our one-year-anniversary you weren't there. You were with him, but I didn't know it. I hadn't known that for more than half a year you were cheating on me with my best friend.

I hadn't known that all good things must come to an end.
