Jude helps out at an adoption center with Callie, Jesus and Mariana. One day they meet this foster kid named William, he's ginger and is pretty tall for his age. It is revealed that he's been in the foster system since he was a baby. Soon he grows a liking to the Fosters family and Steph and Lena are having thoughts about adopting him, since of Lena's miscarriage and the fact that Brandon and Callie will be gone in a few years, they decide they want to adopt William. However it says on his document that he was mistaken as a miscarriage and that spawned to Steph and Lena having to need to get signatures for their rights to adopt William. The court traces back the phone call to Kansas City to the Kennish household where they are devastated by the news and plan to sue the hospital again. Bay, Daphne and Toby find out and they ride to San Diego so they can meet their biological brother. The Fosters aren't so welcomed by their arrival, but William wants to meet his brother and sisters. Turns out he's intrested in the arts of theater and filmography and Bay feels a strong connection to him. The three then go back to Kansas City to tell John and Katherine that they should get their son back. They let the court know, the Fosters are now furious as they have no power,but William states is his anwser that really determines where he goes. Mariana and William have a very heart to heart conversation and she states that he should go live in Kansas City with Kennishes because he'd have a better life and more opportunities. The court date arrives and Jude hopes that William will choose the Fosters to live with because he'd have someone there for him when everyone in the family grows up. Both families state on what they can offer to William, but William now has the final decision and he's switched between the Fosters and the Kennishes. He finally takes Mariana's advice and chooses the Kennishes. Jude and the Fosters are saddened, but hope him well. William however, states that he'd like to see the Fosters every now and then and video chat. The Fosters and Kennishes agree. 3 months later... William is happily living in Kansas City and hanging out with Bay about possiy her doing a portrait of him. He gets a call from the Fosters and ignores it, signifying he's moved on and he doesn't want to go back anymore. Bay starts the portrait as Toby plays the Fosters theme song, John and Katherine look out the window in the kitchen smiling. Daphne then leaves smiling also and says, "he was switched at the fosters, but he chose us and she leaves as it pans back to San Diego. Lena tells the kids that she is pregnant again and this makes the family happy for their new beginning. We then hear the Switched at Birth theme and it fades out ending the episode.
