AN: this another attempt for an AltMal fic, however it will focus on a song from the Prince Of Egypt "River Lullaby" but not the full song. And its a rememberance of a secret burial for Kadar by Malik. It will all make sense soon.
And if you do not like, then do not read. I do not own these characters, places, ideas and this song.
It was hitting midnight and Altair was exhausted from all the work he had done that week. It was was nice to finally return to his favorite bureau, and to his favorite bureau leader, Malik.
Malik was more than happy to have him back 'home' as he called it. He had longed for the presence of the 'novice' for awhile. So he fed Altair well and forced him to sleep in his room than the carpet outside.
They were both laying down in Malik's bed staring into the darkness with such serenity. Altair, laying down on Malik's chest, was letting Malik play with his hair. Malik began to hum which vibrated his chest, making Altair chuckle.
"Malik, just sing. I know you want to." Rolling his eyes, Malik gave into the command of Altair which is rare. However he admits, he did want to sing something, especially on the anniversary of his brother's, Kadar, death.
He remembers, the day after the incident and the amputation of his arm, that he was able to find things of Kadars' to drift into the river. Sadly, he was unable to go back to the temple to retrieve his body. He was alone when it happened, the secret burial.
Malik began to sing "Hush now, my baby. Be still love, don't cry. Sleep as you're rocked by the stream." He began to remember the day he placed all of his stuff to drift into the river. He was praying to Allah to guide Kadar's soul to heaven.
"Sleep and remember, my last lullaby. So I'll be with you when you dream." He remembers when Altair was thrown from them, that before he escaped with the treasure, he hummed this song he only sang to Kadar. He remembers when he sang this running to see the items drift away.
Altair is beginning to notice breathing differences from Malik, he begins to worry. Malik begins to recall what happened after he ran for Kadar's things.
He ran to the highest spot of Maysaf to watch the river. As he ran he sang "River oh river, flow gently for me. Such precious cargo you bare." He is asking Allah to take Kadar in the kindest way they could. After he was merely a child in his eyes.
Altair can feel tears forming as Malik sings these verses. He looks up but it is nearly impossible to see him in this darkness. He begins to move away in preparation to hold Malik.
Malik sits up, seeing the past so vivid; as if he was still there. He is running up the stairs, so close to the view point. "Do you know somewhere he can be free. River, deliver him there!" Then he bursts the door leading to view point as the sun is barely shining onto the earth.
Altair grabs Malik and holds him. He begins calming him down, but it's of no use. Malik remembers falling to his knees as the sun rises, and Kadar 'floats' away. "Aaaaaaa! Aaaaaaaaaaaaa! AaaAaaaaaaaAaaaaah!"
"Shh, Shh. Malik its okay." Malik begins to breathe unevenly, and he falls into Altair's body. Altair just hold him as he calms down. They stay like this all night, until Malik falls asleep, completely drained. Altair washes his soaked face, and brings him back into his arms. He will stay like this even if Jeruselem falls around them.
AN: yeah it may not be a great one, but its my imagination. If you don't like, then do not read. For those who do like it, leave a reply if you like. If not then enjoy the story. Laters. I admit the ending is weak, but it was kind of hard to end it and I didn't want to drag it for long
