Hermione Granger rushed around the corner muttering under her breath

"I can't believe they would do something like that to me! And they call themselves my friends . . . I have to get to the library before it closes!"

She was so lost in her own little world that she didn't her the sound of footsteps coming around the corner in her direction. In fact she didn't even realise that there was anyone else around until she ran straight into a tall, muscular person and ended up sprawled on the ground, with her precious books and notes scattered.

As they both reached to retrieve the books their hands brushed and a shiver went up Hermione's spine. She looked up and felt the electricity soar between her chocolate brown eyes and his silver-blue ones.

Hands touch, eyes meet

Sudden silence, sudden heat

Hearts leap in a giddy whirl

He could be that boy

All at once she was out of her three second trance, this was Draco Malfoy. She could NOT feel anything for him! And even if she did feel something, he already had a girlfriend . . .

But I'm not that girl.

She gathered up her books, mumbled and inaudible "Thank you" and raced to the library. When her work was finished she made her way slowly to the Great hall for dinner, all the way thinking and dreaming of that tall, blond boy with the deadly smirk that seemed to have stolen her heart. "What would it be like if he didn't have her? Would I have a chance?"

Don't dream too far

Don't lose sight of who you are

Don't remember that rush of joy

He could be that boy

As she entered the hall she heard a smothered giggle from the Slytherin table, looking over she saw Draco and his new girlfriend Lavender Brown conversing quietly and then begin to kiss like there was no tomorrow. Saddened Hermione turned away.

I'm not that girl

It had been weeks since Hermione and Draco's accidental meeting and she could not get him out of her head. Lavender to her shock and amazement had suddenly grown as close to her as Harry and Ron had once been. This meant that she and Draco were continually in each others company making it hard to ignore the feelings he stirred up in her.

Ev'ry so often we long to steal

To the land of what-might-have-been

But that doesn't soften the ache we feel

When reality sets back in

Hermione tried not to be jealous, she tried to be happy for Lavender and Draco, with her confidence and their looks they deserved each other, she would probably end up with some boring old toad, with no looks or taste!

Blithe smile, lithe limb

She who's winsome, she wins him

Gold hair with gentle curl

That's the girl he chose

And heaven knows

I'm not that girl...

Every night when she was lying awake in her bed listening to Lavender's dream talking she found herself wishing that Draco was hers and not Lavender's but by the beginning of the Christmas holidays she had resigned herself into the role of Hermione, one of Lavender's best friends.

Don't wish, don't start

Wishing only wounds the heart

I wasn't born for the rose and pearl

There's a girl I know

He loves her so

They are engaged, they will have a life together and I'll end up as the favourite aunt and godmother to either little Lavender or little Draco. She had given up hope, she's the friend…

I'm not that girl...
