Baralai's Paine

Author's Notes: Okay…this is my first ever Baralai and Paine fan fiction so please go easy on me. I hope you like this one. The plot is allmysterious and the whole thing is dark and eerie. The idea isn't a really long one and so it shouldn't be long before I complete it. So, other than that there is not much to say. R and R! Love and peace…

Disclaimer: I do not own FFX or FFX-2.

Prologue: Dark Dreams or Dark Memories?

"Baralai!" Paine cried, her voice filled with terror. Her maroon eyes were wide open and the distinct glisten of tears covered them. Her mouth hung open in disbelief and her face was ghost white. Baralai stood directly across from her with his face stern and a gun held tightly in his hand. He raised his arm and pointed the gun right at Paine. "What are you doing?"

"I have to do this, Paine." Baralai's voice was cold and hard. His face non-descript but his eyes held a look of twisted anger in them, something Paine had never seen in Baralai's usually serene manner. "You know I do!" Paine sucked in her breath to say something but found that no words would leave her clenched throat.

"I don't get it," she said, barely whispering her words. Baralai closed his eyes and bent his head in exasperation for a moment. Then shot his head up again suddenly and looked Paine straight in the eyes with his face leaning forward.

"Of course you don't!" he yelled at her in an evil twisted voice. He threw his arms up above his head and turned from her letting out a long irritated breath. "You're always like this, aren't you Paine? Just not knowing what's going on or what to do? You've always been the person who was taking in this relationship. You needed me! But I don't need you. Not anymore! Not now and not ever." Paine looked at Baralai horrified at what he was saying and how he was acting. How could this be happening? Did she provoke some odd behaviour in him?

"I thought you loved me?" Paine uttered as she started to back away, her feet stumbling weakly below her. "I thought we were going"

"Well you thought wrong!" He yelled cutting her off. Baralai stopped abruptly, looked at his gun, and then pulled back the safety on the top. "Goodbye Paine." He pointed the gun at her once more and then slowly pressed his finger into the trigger, the loud shot echoing through the air as he fired it.

Baralai sat up in his bed with sweat dripping from his brow and his chest heaving up and down in large breaths. He moved his eyes back and forth along the outlines of his dark room and began to clam down when he realized that he was at home. He sighed deeply and pulled his hand up to and ran it down his face.

What had just happened? Was it just a dream or was it something more? Whatever he just saw, dream or not, Paine had died and he had been the one that killed her. And somehow it felt vaguely familiar, like it had already happened before.

So here is the prologue! I hope you are interested already! Tell me what you think! So yah…R and R! Bye bye…
