'Heroes are not born, they are made.'
Then where do Heroes come from?
Heroes usually emerge in times of great peril whether it be in an age of deadly war or in an era of great oppression, this is evident throughout history. Sometimes these Heroes have no other choice and become what they are, other times they simply volunteer. Heroes come in many different forms and shapes but their actions stay the same.
Described as 'Champions of Justice' and 'Upholders of Freedom', Heroes give hope to the innocent and strike fear to the Evil. They care not for wealth, but for the smiles of the people. They are entities of courage, individuals who can hold their ground through the crippling fear they face when they face down their foes. They are selfless, charismatic and often kind. All heroes have often displayed these actions throughout their lives.
Yes, every single Hero except for one.
There was a single Hero who was different from any other Hero that existed before and after him. The individual was not known for his feats of astonishing strength or power. Instead, he was more well-known for his incredible displays of pettiness and impatience. With a crude mouth and an equally crude attitude, there was nothing Hero-like about him, and yet the world regarded him as one. Historians suggest that this may be the reason why he became the most famous Hero of all time.
This is the tale of arguably the worst, yet best, Hero ever recorded in Supernatural History.
This is the legend of Kazuma Satou, the Enigmatic Hero.
(AKA 'Scumuza' or 'Kazutrash')
Kuoh Academy, Lunch break
Souna Shitori, or Sona Sitri if you know her close, was known for her ability to keep her calm and show no emotion on her face. But those features seem to disappear when she deals with a certain first-year student.
"Kazuma Satou." There's venom in her voice, and her feelings of anger are made apparent with the frustrated and irritated expression on her face. "Do you know why I called you to the student council room?"
"No?"
The one word answer from the youngest member of the Perverted Quartet further increased her anger. With tense hands she adjusts her glasses.
"You've been called here because you were caught peeking at female students getting changed with the other three second-year students: Issei Hyoudou, Matsuda Yorikita and Motohama Hirata."
"Then why aren't they here?"
Sona resists the urge to use demonic magic. With bated breath she answers;
"That is because they have already been thoroughly punished for their actions on the sight. But you..." Sona glares at Kazuma, "You, on the other hand, have escaped, again."
"Oh okay." He nods while scratching his head. "What's my punishment?"
There was always something about Kazuma that infuriated Sona to no end. Right now was his carefree attitude. Of course, it wasn't like this from the start.
In the very beginning, Kazuma Satou was just a normal student in Sona's eyes. There was nothing special about him, he was another face in the crowd. But it was the seventh time that he was brought to the Student Council room when Sona's cold exterior began to crack a little, leaking small bits of buried anger. The eleventh time was the first time she openly glared at him. The Thirteenth time was the time she yelled at him. And soon enough, she displayed more emotion talking to Kazuma than when she talks to her own peerage.
Sona sighed and readjusted her glasses again.
"In normal cases, when a student has committed misconduct we send them to detention."
"I seem pretty normal."
"Yes. Yes you do. But you don't seem to learn from detention."
"Can't say that's wrong."
Sona twitches once more, her anger almost reaching the boiling point. She grits her teeth and holds back the temptation of releasing unholy violence upon the first-year student. It was then Kazuma spoke up; "Let's make a deal. Let's play 50 rounds of paper scissors rock and if I lose one of them I will-"
"No." Sona sharply declared "You used that trick the last time you came here. I don't know how you did it but you somehow won all 50 rounds." She then softened her glare and smirked a little. "But if you truly insist on a game, let us play chess."
Chess was the one thing Sona was absolutely confident in. So confident in fact, that she risked her future on the game. 'If a man were to beat Sona in chess, she would have to marry him' that was the condition she was given for breaking off her engagement with her fiance. Many people tried, all of them failed. "If you were to win this game of chess, I will not interfere with your school life forever. But if I were to win, you will follow every single one of my command for the rest of the year."
For a moment Kazuma was silent, he put his hand on his chin appearing to be deep in thought. He then got out his phone and fiddled with it.
"...What are you doing?"
"Oh sorry, I just got a text from a friend." he shoved his phone back into his pocket and faced the student council president. "Anyways, I've only played chess like, twice in my entire life. So if we're going to play chess I have one condition. If I can last until the next school bell it will count as my win. Would that be alright? Also in the case that I win, will you not bother my friends too?"
There were 35 minutes until the school bell rings indicating the end of lunch. Easy. Sona could defeat high levelled opponents in 20 minutes, amateurs like him would take even less time.
"I agree on your condition. But in turn, you will have a maximum of 10 seconds per turn. Is that clear?"
"Yes."
Sona internally smirked, she already won. Usually, thirty seconds are given to players for their turn. Ten seconds is too little for even experienced players. Despite this, Sona didn't feel an ounce of guilt placing such a strict condition on Kazuma. She was a Devil after all. Sona brought out her chess board and chess pieces from under the table and laid it on top. Eight pawns, two Rooks, two Knights, two Bishops, one Queen and One King. Two sets on opposite sides of the board. One side black, one side white. The board was set. Sona was going not going to let this chance slip. She would utterly demolish the younger student and gain him as an unofficial servant. This would be her personal, petty revenge.
"Now then. Kazuma Satou, let us start."
Kazuma grabbed the white pawn piece and placed it 2 spaces forward. Sona grasped a pawn piece of her own and-
RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING!~
The school bell rang.
Sona dropped her black pawn. "...What."
Kazuma shrugged and stood up. "I guess it's my win. You'll keep the end of your deal right? No bothering me or my friends." He started to walk toward the exit of the room.
"Wait!" Sona shouted with a flabbergasted expression, she slammed her hands on the table. "What did you do!? And why is the bell still ringing!?"
"It's a fire drill." Kazuma stated as a matter-of-factly.
"A fire drill? But that just happened three weeks ago... !" Sona clenched her fists upon realisation. "You texted your friends to activate the fire alarm!"
"I will not confirm or deny your suspicion. Let's go Sona-san, we have to line up outside on the field when there's a fire drill."
Sona's face flushed as she gripped the edges of the table and stood up. "I will not allow this! You cheated!"
"Did I?"
Kazuma walked out of the room without waiting for a reply. Sona was about to yell at him to return until she realised something.
She just lost a Chess match. Against Kazuma. A male.
...It didn't count right?
.
"Man, they're slow..." I said to myself while waiting at the corner of the school field.
The former after-school meeting spot for the Perverted Quart- Trio was the arcade located at the department store near the school. But it all changed when I joined and the 'Perverted Trio' became the 'Perverted Quartet'. This was because I had a lifetime ban from the arcade. And no, it wasn't because I broke any machines or threatened any customers- it was because I was getting too many jackpots in the chance games. Ahh yes, great memories. It was my twenty-first time getting a jackpot when a store employee grabbed my hand and led me out of the arcade. But I didn't complain, after all, it was the first time a girl had led me by the hand. (I curse my inner weakness.)
Now that I think I about it I still have a stupidly large amount of tickets back at my house... What a gosh darn waste of money and time it was.
"Yo Kouhai. We're here."
I turn around to see the familiar faces. Two of them were crying and one of them was looking smug. Hm? Did Matsuda and Motohama get caught pressing the fire alarm or something?
"Uhh, Issei-senpai. What happened to these two?" I asked.
To my question, Issei's smug smile increased tenfold. Whoa, that's creepy.
"They are jealous dear kouhai."
"Jealous?"
"Yes! It's because I got myself a girlfriend!" As if on cue, Issei-senpai whipped out his phone and showed me a picture of a rather beautiful girl. If someone were to tell me she is an idol shown on television, I'd probably believe them. She had black hair and was wearing a uniform I had never seen before.
What kind of blackmail did Issei-senpai send to this poor girl?
"Judging by your facial expression, you probably think I blackmailed her." Whoa, spot on. Issei-senpai are you an esper? "But that is not the case! In fact, she was the one who confessed to me!"
Matsuda and Motohama's cries increased and so did my scepticism.
"Issei-senpai no one on this earth would ever do that to you." I voiced my thoughts.
"Oi kouhai, your words seriously hurt sometimes so please tone it down."
"No."
I've only known Issei for less than one year but I know that he's the type of person that repels girls rather than attract them. Although I can't say much because I'm the same.
"Heh, at least I have a girlfriend." Issei-senpai's smug grin returned and I was not liking it. "And I have a date tomorrow!"
"It's true!" Matsuda exclaimed with half of his face covered in tears. He wiped his eyes with his sleeve and continued talking. "She's actually real! We saw her casually walking up to this bastard and confirming it after school!"
'this bastard' probably refers to Issei-senpai.
"She actually came all the way from another school to meet this prick!" Motohama yelled. "3D! A real 3D woman!"
"Now now." Issei-senpai put his hands on both of their shoulders. "Why don't you get yourselves a girlfriend instead of crying? It will certainly help you."
Matsuda and Motohama-senpai punched Issei in the gut and ran off with tears flowing more than ever. Ah, how sad. It looks like the Perverted Quartet won't be doing anything together for a while.
lthough punched by two people, Issei was still smiling smugly.
I didn't like that so I kicked him.
The next day
Coincidentally on the same day that Issei-senpai has his 'date' (ew), a game that I've had my eye on would be released and be on the shelves of the local game shop. Although I usually play RPG type games, 'Danganronpa V69' was a game definitely worth buying and playing. It was a murder mystery visual novel type game and it had great reviews across Japan. Hell, it even had great reviews in America. I smiled in glee as I held the physical copy of the game close to my chest. I can't wait to play this game on my damn PS Vita!
"I sure had fun today." A woman's voice interrupted my thoughts. I looked up from my copy and saw a teenage man and a woman standing face to face near a fountain.
Hm? I wonder what they're doing? Eh, who cares. Normies doing normie things are not my probl- Oh wait that was Issei-senpai.
I hid behind a bush and peered over it. What am I, a stalker?
"Hey, Ise-kun."
Damn, she already has a nickname for Issei-senpai? She must love him a lot... Or maybe this is a thing that couples usually do. Not that I know anything about being in a relationship. Tch, go to hell and burn normies.
"What is it, Yuuma-chan?" Issei-senpai said. 'Yuuma-chan' had her hand behind her back and was smiling.
"There is something I want to do to celebrate our first date. Can you listen to my wish?"
I seriously think I'm a stalker here. Maybe I should leave?
"W-What is the w-wish you want?"
Nevermind, seeing Issei-senpai being an absolute dork is the funniest thing I've seen all week.
"Will you die for me?"
...
...Eh? What was that? Issei-senpai seemed to hear the same thing as he replied;
"...Eh? That is...huh, sorry, can you repeat that again? I think there's something wrong with my ears."
"Will you die for me?"
She clearly says it to Issei-senpai again. While laughing.
...What's going on? Is this some inside joke? If so, it's not very funny.
FLAP
Suddenly, black crow-like wings appeared from her back and her cute looking eyes change into cold, scary ones.
"It was fun. The short time I spent with you. It was like playing house with a little child."
I see. What the fuck.
'Yuuma's voice sounds cold and her tone is like an adult's, nothing like it was just then. Unlike the persona she wore before, her killing intent is real. Issei is in shock, his mouth is wide open.
'Yuuma' holds out her hand to the side and a strange buzzing noise is emitted. A rod of light appears in her hands and the noise stops, she poises to throw it at Issei. It was then I realised, it wasn't a rod. It was a fucking spear and 'Yuuma' was going to kill him with it. Not on my watch.
In desperation, I stood from my hiding spot and threw my physical game copy at 'Yuuma'. Her eyes widened and the spear of light she held in her hand dissipated.
CRACK!
Boom, headshot... What do I do now? I have no idea what the bloody hell I'm looking at right now but yippee keeyaying the fuck out of here might be a good idea. Oh, but I have to tell Issei first.
"Issei-senpai run!"
"K-Kouhai!? What are you doing here!"
"Who gives a shit! You need to run from the psycho bitch!"
Without any more questions, Issei ran full speed in the opposite direction. Now might be a good time that I do it too. I turned around and began to sprint.
STAB!
I immediately collapse to the floor feeling an immense pain coming from my back and chest.
Oh, I've been impaled.
"Wh-What."
It hurts. It really hurts. It's unreal. It's really fucking unreal. The tip of the spear of light was poking out from my chest.
"You stupid human. You could've lived if you didn't bother me. Death shall be your punishment."
"Fuck you."
My voice was weak and there was no bite to my words.
Crap, my vision is getting darker and darker. My blood is spreading across the concrete floor and it looks like it's not coming back.
...I'm dying.
"Kazuma!"
I heard Issei-senpai's voice. How rare, he usually never calls me by my name.
Wait, why is he here? Why did he return?
"Kazuma!" he repeats, there is the look of despair in his eyes and his hands are shaking. "No no no, this can't be happening!"
"Now Ise-kun." 'Yuuma' said in a fake sweet tone. "Do you want to get back to where we left off?"
Another spear of light appears in her hands.
"Oh? Do you want to get your friend out of their misery? I'll do it for you if you want~"
Issei trembles. His hands clenched and teeth gritted, he turns to 'Yuuma'.
"...You bitch." Issei is fully shaking now and there are tears in his eyes. "I won't forgive you. I will never forgive you!"
A single tear drops to the floor.
...And that's when it happens. A red light manifests on Issei's left hand. The light then dissipates revealing a red gauntlet with a green orb stuck in the middle.
But I before I could witness anything more, darkness fully captured my vision and my mind shut down.
It's over now. My life has ended.
...
...
...
...Death is quite... peaceful...
...This isn't too bad...
...
...
...
"Awaken Mortal." A soft soothing voice called out to me.
I open my eyes to see a blue-haired girl sitting on what appears to a throne. My breath hitched at her beauty.
It was beyond human. You couldn't compare her appearance to idols because it would be unfair to the idols. Her waist length hair, her deep blue eyes, everything about her seemed to be... beyond human.
The blue-haired girl spoke with the same calming voice;
"Satou Kazuma. You have died."

It's a rewrite babee. Expect irregular updates.
Cheers. Chomusuke.
