Wahaha! Premiere first chapter of... Dark Clouds! Weird... I said that 'Just Us' or 'Rainbowkit's Song' would come before this... But, here's the thing... Chief, care to explain?

Chief: Well, she had already written Dark Clouds on paper and the other two stories weren't even planned yet. So, she figured... maybe she's write this first... Right?

Gimme ham! Gimme ham!

Me: -throws ham- Good job.

Chief: Wait, how do I know all this stuff?"

Me: I dunno. Roll the story!

Dark Clouds

Chapter 1

In the weak light, the nursery has small, pitiful mews from within its lichen entrance.

It was humid, and the sun wasn't as bright as it usually was in greenleaf. Very soon, leaf-fall would be here before the blink of an eye. Most of BirdClan's warriors were either out hunting or training their apprentice.

Everyone except for Smokecloud. He had spent most of his days tending to his mate's, Flametail, wishes. She had given birth to four beautiful and healthy kits. However, she had recently fallen ill with greencough; luckily, it wasn't a serious case.

Smokecloud was carrying in some borage leaves and catmint. He saw Flametail grooming herself. He looked into her eyes, which had turned from bright and exuberant, to dull and listless.

"Flametail, how are you feeling? I brought you some borage and catmint." He mewed happily.

"Thanks." She answered, her voice weak and raspy. She gulped down the borage with a grimace, and she ate the catmint with a grateful pleasure. Once she was finished, she looked down proudly at her kits.

There was a fiery ginger tabby tom, Firekit, who was wrestling with his younger sister, a dark gray tabby she-kit named Darkkit. There was another orange tabby, this time a she-cat, named Flowerkit. She was laying at her mother's soft belly fur. Next to her, a gray tabby tom, Stormkit, who had just woken up from a short nap. No one knew, but he caught a little of is mother's greencough.

"I'm going off to train Dawnpaw. Will you be alright?" Smokecloud asked as he began heading out.

"Y-Yeah." She answered, looking after him as his long gray tail exited the den with the rest of him.

"Darkkit, you're hitting too hard! Stop!" Firekit squealed. He kicked her backwards with a triumphant "ha".

"Ree-owr!" She squeaked. Her head bumped into Flametail's thigh. She heard a loud snap coming from her leg. It started to hurt. She began to cry.

"Darkkit, shut up! You shouldn't have started the fight! Apologize now!" Flametail scolded.

Darkkit tried getting up. When she tried to walk, she fell flat on the ground. "I-I can't move!"

"That doesn't mean you can't talk!" Her mother snapped impatiently.

"S-Sorry." Darkkit whined, looking at her brother glumly. Firekit had a shocked expression on his face. He motioned for her to come to him.

Slowly, Darkkit walked over to her brother, grunting with each step she took. Her leg felt as if it were being crushed by a heavy boulder.

"Are you okay? I should be the one apologizing." He whispered sympathetically.

Darkkit shook her head, looking back at her mother. Suddenly, BirdClan's medicine cat, Poppyflower, burst through the entrance, carrying as many leaves in her mouth that she could carry. Her eyes were stricken with fear and panic.

"I heard a squeal! Are your kits okay?" She asked, looking around.

"Oh, well, poor Darkkit must've hurt herself playing. She probably injured her leg." She explained, suddenly distraught.

Poppyflower looked at the queen curiously, but shook her head and came over to Darkkit. The little kit couldn't believe her mother's sudden change in behavior.

Darkkit yelped as Poppyflower lifted her paw. She tried to move it away.

"Stop moving! If you want this done quickly, you should stop!" She snapped. She put it down and shook her head. "She's broken her paw. She might have to stay in my den for a couple quarter moons." Poppyflower diagnosed.

"I'm sorry, Darkkit." Firekit mewed. He walked back over to Flametail and started to nurse. Darkkit hesitantly followed him, about to suckle.

"I'll go get Smokecloud. He's out training, right?" Poppyflower asked. Flametail nodded and watched her walk out.

Once she was out of earshot, the caring look on Flametail's eyes turned to hatred. "You're a monster. You probably would've killed Firekit too, if I hadn't stopped you."

Darkkit gasped. "What do you mean, "too"?"

"You really want to know? Well, when you were a few moons younger, you killed your other sister." She noted the surprised look on her kit's face. "That's right, killed her. I left with your siblings and left you two alone while I went to a Clan meeting. I got back, and poor little Gingerkit was dead, while you were huddled in the corner. You had looked guilty, and I knew you had killed her while I was gone."

Darkkit shuddered. She had remember seeing her sister die, but she knew she never killed her! She didn't even clearly remember what had happened that day. She just knew that her siblings really wanted to go with Flametail to the meeting, so she stayed behind in the den. But she never killed her! "I hate you." She murmured.

"Excuse me?" Flametail gasped.

"Why'd you have to give me this stupid name? I'm not dark! And I know you don't mean my fur! You never even liked me! If you hate me that much, maybe I should just run away!"

"Go ahead, then! It'd be better, not having your bad luck around here!"

Darkkit raced out of the den. She noticed some cats looking after her as she ran into a nearby field. It wasn't long until she scented something strange. It kept growing stronger.

Claws struck her side. She was thrust into a large and deep lake. She weakly saw badgers looming over her. She gasped for air. Her lungs filled with water. She gasped for air again.

She blacked out.

OOH cliffie! Kinda! Anyway, keep readin', and R&R! Hope you guys like the story!
