Another of my chance meetings stories, this time between Maureen and Joanne.

It was Maureen Jessica Emily Johnson's first day at Kindergarten. After being introduced by the teacher, Miss Menzel, she went to the bathroom. On her return, everyone else was playing.

"Maureen? Can you find something to do by yourself? Or do you need some help?" The kindly voice of Miss Menzel rang down on her.

"Umm...I can find something to do Miss. I wanna go play in the playhouse." Maureen had barely finished her sentence before running off to the playhouse in the corner.

She opened the pink door and stepped inside. There was a small American-African girl sat in the corner, pretending to read, the book upside down, with big glasses perched on her nose.

Her head shot up when Maureen entered.

"Hi. I'm Maureen. Maureen Jessica Emily Johnson. That's my full name. It's a long name. Jessica is my Mommy's middle name. What's your name? How old are you? I'm five. Daddy says that when I'm six I can have a puppy. Do you have a puppy?"

The girl looked slightly scared. "I'm Joanne. My full name is Joanne Tracie Jefferson and I'm five too. Uh, no, I don't have a puppy."

Maureen bent over and crawled closer. She liked the look of this girl.

"Do you have a kitty?"

Joanne nodded. "Yeah. Her name is Mimi. She's got big brown eyes."

Maureen's own green eyes lit up. "I love kitties. Can I come and see her sometime?"

Joanne smiled happily. "Yeah! And we can play with my dolls too."

"Can I come over now?"

Joanne shook her head. "Nuh-uh. We're in Kindergarten now. We have to stay here until our Mommies come to get us. And anyway, I gotta finish my book. It's very impwortant," she said, pronouncing the big word with pride and holding up the upside down, backwards book.

Maureen sighed, and then brightened. "Can I play with that cow over there?"

Joanne nodded. "They'se for all of us to play with. Her name is Elsie."

Maureen crawled over to the stuffed cow and began to play, while Joanne returned to 'reading' her book.

And if Miss Menzel happened to walk past the playhouse, all she would be able to hear would be the turning of pages and some faint mooing.

So how was that? Please review, because I only got 2 reviews but 22 hits for my last story.
