I just got Season 4 on DVD this week (finally) and when watching "Child's Play" this came to me after Lindsey asking Mac what she says to help Danny. We never saw a conversation so this is how I feel it would have went. I don't usually do D/L stuff, I like it but it's not my cup of tea to write with. So I hope I do it justice. Also, a new chapter for my story "Home" should be up this weekend.
Thanks and enjoy.
P.S I don't own anything in here except for the idea.
Lindsey found Danny sitting, with his head in his hands, in the locker room. She walked over and sat down beside him. She went to take his hand but he pulled it away from her. She let out a quiet sigh and tried to gain the courage to talk to him.
She wasn't lying when she told Mac she didn't know how to do this sort of thing. Any time anything major happened, Danny comforted her. Her court case back in Montana, Danny was there to hold her, the Mosi Gedi case, Danny held her. She didn't understand how everything always ended up with her in Danny's arms getting the comfort. She should have, somewhere down the road, been able to help with this sort of thing. She knew what it was like to lose someone you care about.
After sitting in silence and trying to ignore Danny's silent sobs, Lindsey decided enough was enough. She was going to pull her big girl pants on and help him deal with it.
"I'm not going to ask if you're okay," she started. "Because I know when you are hurting like this that is the last thing you want to hear from someone, from anyone. I've been where you are and I know how much you are hurting. I'm not good at this sort of thing, Danny. But if you let me, I can and want to be there for you. To help you, to hold you when you need a shoulder to cry on. You've done it for me, I don't know how many times and now it's my turn to be there for you."
Lindsey watched for any movement and/or recognition for what she just said. Slowly Danny's hands released his head and he slowly started to nod.
"Yeah," Danny said. "Thanks. I've, um," he cleared his throat. "Someone has to go and talk to Rikki. Mac gave me a few days off, so I am going to head home. I'll call ya."
Danny got up off the bench and headed towards the door. Lindsey hoped and prayed that he wouldn't do what she knew he was going to. But she knew that if he was going to push her away, just like she did to him, then she would do what he did, push right back.
