Not So Typical.

Chapter One; I Won.

The newly paved road glistened with tears from the sky that had just tumbled down gracefully in a rythmic motion. Jack Welling had been driving block after block for a countless amount of hours, in hopes of escaping from his recently damaged love life. He heard several car horns honking wildly behind him. Annoyed, he glanced at the rear view mirror to see the lunatic that was practically on his tail, and that's when he caught a glimpse of the pale, worried, and yet still so beautiful face of the fragile woman in the car behind him. She kept on honking, and he new she wanted him to stop.

Jack pulled over to the side of the nearly deserted road, which only consisted of him and the woman. Not bothering to shut down the engine, or turn off the radio of his 1940's style car, he sighed and climbed out, just as she was.

They stared at each other, each unsure of what to say at first, until he broke the silence with,

"What has brought you back to me, Irene? Shouldn't you be nursing some other soldier right about now?"

Troy Bolton leaned over to his right to his two best friends, Gabriella Montez and Sharpay Evans. He swallowed the popcorn in his mouth.

"I wonder if these two get together." he said in an annoyingly loud whisper, pointing to the screen, which resulted in him getting a handful of popcorn from Gabriella chucked in his face and both women glared at him.

"Shhhh!" they hissed in unison, before reverting their eyes back to the screen to watch the unfolding romantic - reunion scene of Jack and Irene take place.

"Is there anything I can do be granted your forgiveness?" Irene asked, staring up at the man she loved with big, pleading green eyes. Jack sighed, and for a moment the only sound that filled both of their ears was the sound of his car radio driting from the speakers, out onto the street.

"This is for all you late night lovers out there!" the radio host called, and a slow song then started playing.

"I'll only forgive you on one condition." Jack told Irene willingly. She blinked at him with questions in her eyes, but said nothing.

"You dance with me." Jack finished off. Irene smiled and threw her arms around his neck, as the two happily began to sway back and forth to the soothing, slow romantic song, as the words "The" and "End" joined them on the screen.

The audience started clapping as the scene faded to black, and the credits started rolling. All Troy could do for a few seconds was stare at the names of the cast in disbelief, too shocked to say or do anything. He forced an over-exaggerated laugh.

"Now tell me," he said, turning to his friends. "What kind of corny, over-emotional sap would fall for an ending like that!?" he asked. He rolled his eyes when he got his answer. Sharpay and Gabriella were each wiping freshly fallen tears from their own brown eyes with their fingers, and were sniffling loudly, as the rest of the audience started filing out of the theater.

"Oh." Troy mumbled to himself, "That kind." he grabbed a hanful of buttered popcorn and shoved it into his mouth as he began to chew loudly.

"Shar," Gabriella spoke, turning sideways to face her friend that was on her left side, ignoring Troy and his non-sensitive ways. She sniffed. "Do you think Jason Cross is like that in real life?" she asked, referring to the hunk of an actor on the screen who had been playing as Jack Welling. "You know- all romantic and sweet and stuff?"

Sharpay nodded and wiped away the remaining tears that had leaked from her eyes- those big brown eyes that Troy loved so much.

"Oh, absolutley." She told Gabriella. "Something like that is too serious and personal to fake- even onscreen for amazing actors like him." she said. The brunette girl nodded and smiled.

"Yeah." she sighed dreamily. "What do you think Jason Cross is doing, right now?"

"As in this very second?"

"Yeah..."

Sharpay took a moment to think about it and sort out the posible options. Now it was her turn to sigh dreamily.

"I'll bet he's either reading to an orphanage, raising money for the poor, or feeding the homeless." she gushed. Troy scoffed in a "you have got to be kidding me!" way...

"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! I'M KING OF THE WORLD!!" sitting in the driver's seat of the black mustang convertible (top down) while he juggled a large bottle of vodka in one hand, Jason Cross gripped the steering wheel tightly with the other hand and zipped down the road at record breaking speed. If that wasn't wild and crazy enough, he was bare-chested as a very frisky and not to mention horny and drunk Kelsi Neilson practically stradled him and licked the side of his face.

A very young and yet so overworked Zeke Baylor sighed. "You don't make things easy for us, or yourself, Jason." the agent said. Jason sat next to him at the table, banging his head with his fists.

"What do you mean?..." Jason asked.

"This is the shot the paparazzi got." Zeke said, thrusting the magazine into the actor's face for him to read. Jason reluctantly looked at it, only to discover that it was a shot of him on his wild joy ride just a couple of nights ago, and it was right on the front cover.

"Congratulations." Zeke said sarcastically, "You're actually drinking, driving, groping, and being licked like a lollipop at the same time."

"Which on the one hand," Chad Danforth, Jason's manager cut in before swallowing his mouthful of hotdog, "is just about the coolest I've ever seen!"

Zeke kicked Chad under the table and shot him a "you're not helping, you idiot." look.

"Um...but on the other and, I suppose it's also, you know- bad for the image." Chad then muttered. Jason rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to his agent.

"You play characters who have hearts, and this picture shows a person who will have a heart attack."

"You can't seriously be telling me that this is the reason I haven't been in many movies lately." Jason said, pointing at the magazine. Zeke shrugged.

"You've almost been unemployed." Chad said dumbly, only to be kicked again by Zeke.

"No," the agent said. "Not 'unemployed', stock workers are unemployed. You Jason, are simply between million dollar pay-days."

"As are we," Chad said, referring to himself and Zeke, "since we both get a percentage of your pay-day..." he trailed off when he caught the harsh looks the both of them sent his way. "But this isn't about us!" he quickly added.

"Well, what ever happened to the part in that Matthew Arnold film?" Jason suggested, ignoring Chad once again, "I'm perfect for that one!"

"Uh...well...he's...taking a breath." Zeke informed him, scratching his head.

"Taking a breath? You mean?..."

"They're having a hard time deciding and bastard won't make up his mind." Chad butt in, food flying everywhere from his mouth. "He's...reluctant. He's pausing."

"Yeah," Zeke said, for once agreeing with the airheaded manager. "And this..." he said, picking up the magazine, "will only make him breathe more."

"Well what are we gonna do then?" Jason asked impatiently.

"We figure out a way to asphyxiate the son of a bitch." Zeke snapped sarcastically.

"Yeah, we generate a little positive PR." Chad said, still chowing down on food. Zeke scoffed.

"What are you an interpreter now?"

"I'm saying," Chad began pointedly, "that we need to do something Jason, to remind Matthew Arnold and America that you are the boy next door."

"Yes, 'cause I am the boy next door!" Jason spat, full of pride, and then added quietly "If...you happen to live in a very disfunctional neighborhood..."

"Congratulations, you've eaten your body weight on...pringles." Troy said, annoyed at how loud his friends were chewing.

"What's your favorite pringle?" Gabriella asked Sharpay, ignoring Troy. "Original or sour cream and onion?"

The three of them were sitting in the manager's office (Troy's office) at the supermarket during their break, snacking on chips. Sharpay was surfing the web- using Troy's computer on his desk, and Troy was reading the newspaper.

"Well, the sour cream and onion has a very strong taste." Sharpay said, "So if you're eating a small amount, say...half a can? You want that strength. But if you're eating much more then that then you want original, it's a cleaner flavor."

Troy smirked. "Wait until you discover barbecue flavor," he said, "you can finally become a woman."

Sharpay smirked back at him. "Oh hush, Troy." she laughed, before turning her attention back to the computer screen. Troy chuckled and went back to reading the newspaper, while Gabriella continued eating the pringles. None of them said anything for a while, before Sharpay's loud, excited squeal cut through the quietness of the room.

"Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!!"

"What?! What is it?!" Gabriella asked, leaping to her feet and rushing over to her friend's side, peeking over her shoulder at the computer screen which appeared to be what she was freaking out about.

"Win a date with Jason Cross!!" Sharpay exclaimed giddily, reading what was on the screen out loud, causing Troy to roll his eyes. "It's to benefit "Save the Children"- oh my god that is soo like him." Sharpay gushed.

"Saving children? Oh I know!" Gabriella agreed. "Awwwwwwwww." they both said at the same time, in awe of the perfect hollywood hunk. Troy felt like he was about to be sick.

Sharpay whirled around in the computer chair to face Gabriella.

"Gabby- should I enter?"

"I don't see why not!"

"Sure," Troy cut in sarcastically, although they didn't know he was being sarcastic. "heaven is just a mouse click away!"

Sharpay punched a few keys on the keyboard and clicked the mouse a couple times before reading something that dissappointed her.

"Yeah a mouse click and a hundred bucks." she grumbled.

"Well...we could raise a hundred bucks?" Gabriella suggested, locking eyes with Sharpay. A few seconds later, they both seemed to have the exact same idea. The grinned and stood up, facing Troy.

"With your permission of course, Troysie..." Sharpay said. Troy looked up from the newspaper.

"Excuse me?"

"Paper or plastic?" Gabriella asked the customer, who was an older woman, at the cash register.

"Plastic, please." the old woman said. Now this was Gabriella's cue to take further action on their little fund raiser plan.

"And would you like to help Sharpay-" she said, gesturing to the register behind her where Sharpay was standing, ringing up another person. "-win a date with the movie star Jason Cross, and benefit Save the Children?"

The old woman flashed both younger women a toothy grin. "Why of course I would!" she said, dropping a five dollar bill into Gabriella's money jar. Gabriella thanked the woman before turning around and smiling at Sharpay.

"At this rate, I thing we'll be able to raise a hundred bucks in no time!" she said enthusiastically, causing the blonde girl to smile.

"Yeah, hopefully. Thanks Gabby."

"So whose gonna buy the drinks tonight?" Gabriella asked her two best friends four days later, who glanced back and forth at each other as if to say "You do it."

"Troy, you're the guy, you should do it." Gabriella then said. Just when Troy was about to reply, Sharpay interrupted him.

"No I have an idea. Let's play darts- the loser has to buy the drinks."

"Okay." Troy nodded. "Sounds fair."

He picked up a couple of darts and stood in front of the board. Concentrating hard on the target, he narrowed his eyes and aimed the red dart at the bullseye, then threw it swiftly. He groaned when it landed on the dart board very close to the bullseye, but not directly on it.

"Darn!"

"Ooh...missed again, Troysie?" Sharpay asked, crossing her arms over her chest. She tsk tsked.

"Well, it's not as easy at it may look." Troy said defensivley. She smirked.

"Really?" she asked. He nodded.

"Hmm...give me a dart."

"Fine but I doubt you'll do better then I did."

"I'll show you how it's done." she said, grabbing a green dart from his hand.

"Oh yeah Shar, I've been trying to make a bullseye for two years. Like I'm sure you could-"

"Bullseye!!" Gabriella announced. Sharpay turned to Troy with a satisfied look on her face.

"And whatta ya call that?"

Troy ran a hand through his hair and felt himself blush. "Beginner's luck?" he suggested and Sharpay rolled her eyes.

"Well fine, you can call it whatever you want. But you're still buying the drinks."

"Do I have to? Martha scares me." he said, referring to the bartender who was creepily in love with him or something. They'd been here lots of times before.

"Hey she beat you fair and square." Gabriella said. Troy sighed.

"Okay, okay, fine." he walked up to the bar and took a deep breath.

"...Oh Marthaaaaa!" he called, and the bartender was standing in front of him, ready to take his order within a second.

"Why hello there Troy." he greeted him seductively. "What is the object of your desire?"

Gabriella and Sharpay giggled.

"Um...can you just get us a round?" he asked her, wanting to make this short and sweet.

"Of course I can. Anything for you. But just know, one day that answer will be "You, Martha. You, are the object of my desire."

Sharpay coughed and laughed into her hands, trying hard not to fall on the floor laughing. Troy glared at her before turning back to Martha.

"Uh...okay then. But for now I think we'll just go with the beers."

Martha nodded, winked at him and walked away to go fetch their drinks. As soon as she was gone, Sharpay and Gabriella started cracking up.

"You two seriously owe me!"

Sharpay and Gabriella were still laughing about the Troy/Martha encounter when the three of them were in the car driving to Sharpay's house half an hour later.

"Oh come on Troy, you don't like her at all?" Sharpay asked him in between giggles.

"Sharpay...no. She's just...she's not my type."

"You have a type?" Gabriella asked scornfully. "Please, you're to dorky to have a type." she cracked.

"That's mean, Gabriella." Sharpay said, but giggled anyway. She turned her attention back to Troy, who was in the driver's seat.

"So what is your type Troysie?"

Before Troy could answer, Gabriella interrupted him with "Whoa! What the hell is going on there!?"

"What are you talking about?" Sharpay asked her, but immediatley saw what she was talking about after she asked it. There was a whole crowd of people with flashing cameras crowding around in front of...her house when they pulled up.

"Uh...Troy, are you sure this is Shar's house? Maybe you drove to the wrong one."

"No, this is my house alright..." Sharpay cut in, and then realized something. "Darn it I hope the fire alarm didn't go off again!" she sighed.

"Does the fire department usually bring flashing cameras?" Troy asked. The three of them were silent for a minute, before Gabriella was the first to realize what was really going on. She gasped.

"Wait a minute..."

"Congratulations Sharpay Evans! You are the winner of our Win a Date with Jason Cross to benefit Save the Children contest! How do you feel, ya big winner?" a reporter asked, thrusting a microphone into Sharpay's face, who took a moment to take in the news.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" she started screaming and jumping up and down all over the palce around her yard, which was still filled with tons of people. Gabriella, who was standing nearby joined her in her victory dancing.

"I won! I won! I won! Oh my god I won!!" Sharpay screamed happily, still jumping around. She grabbed Troy who was standing awkwardly nearby with his hands stuffed into his pockets, less then enthusiastic about the news that she was so crazily excited about.

"Troy I won!! Can you believe it?!" Sharpay said, hugging him and ignoring the flashing cameras around her.

"Yeah...congratulations, Shar." Troy grumbled. She was too happy to notice his bitter attitude. She pulled away from him and hugged Gabriella.

"You won!! Shar, you won!!" Gabriella exclaimed, happy for her best friend.

Damn. Troy thought sadly, She won.

"When you get back, I want a full report- and I mean details. I want every single detail you remember about your perfect night. Everything. I want to be able to picture it like I'm actually there!"

"Okay Gabby. I will, I promise." Sharpay said, clutching her suitcase tightly.

"And I mean more then just "he smelled nice." What did he smell like? I mean details kind of like "he smelled like a fresh pine forest in the middle of Spring!" "

"Alright Gabriella..."

"Give me similies! Good, dirty similies!"

Sharpay laughed. "OKAY Gabriella!"

"Something like-"

"GABRIELLA!" Troy and Sharpay shouted at once. Troy shouted out of annoyance, and Sharpay shouted because she got it and didn't need to hear her repeat it over and over again.

"Sorry!" Gabriella said, "but seriously- similies. I mean it." she smiled. She stepped forward and wrapped her friend in a tight hug. "Dirty ones." she whispered. Sharpay laughed and lightly pushed her away.

"Alright, alright. I have to go before you get all crazy on me."

"As if that didn't already happen." Troy muttered. Gabriella punched him lightly in the arm and he smirked.

"Flight 161 to Los Angeles boarding now." a woman's voice called over the Airport intercom. Sharpay and Gabriella exchanged ear-to-ear grins.

"That's you!!" Gabriella said in a sing-song voice. Sharpay nodded.

"Okay, I'd better go now before they take off without me." she chuckled.

"Hey Shar- I want you to remember something." Troy suddenly spoke up. He'd been pretty quiet this whole time except for the occassional input he put in.

"Yeah?" Sharpay asked, "What is it, Troy?"

"Just..." Troy cleared his throat. "Okay, if he tells you he doesn't watch sports, then he's just trying to sleep with you."

Sharpay's face contorted into a confused scowl. "Uh...okay. I'll remember that."

"Oh, and if he says he loves animals, then he's really just trying to sleep with you."

Sharpay and Gabriella both shot him confused looks but said nothing.

"Just remember that, okay?!" Troy insisted and Sharpay nodded and shrugged.

"Okay, okay. I won't question you're weird theories, Troysie." she giggled. "I'll remember that. Now just quit acting so weird and give me a hug?" she asked, setting down her suitcase and holding her arms out. He smiled, stepped forward, and hugged her tightly, breathing in her sweet scent. He wanted to stay like that forever- just hold her close and never let go. He kissed her forehead.

"Troy...you can...let go of me now." Sharpay said awkwardly after a while. Troy blushed and released her. "Sorry." he chuckled nervously. She smiled at him.

"Right. Now I really have to go now. I'll see you guys in a couple days!" she said, picking up her suitcase again. She turned around to leave, but then Troy remembered something.

"Wait! I forgot something." he said, stopping her. She turned around.

"Yeah?"

"Here- I got you this." he said, holding out a tall tin can of Pringles to her. She chuckled and took them.

"Thanks Troy, that's very thoughtful of you." she grinned at him. He smiled.

"They're original, I figured the airplane flight would be pretty long and boring so it gives you something to snack on for a while. Hoepfully they won't run out too quick- it comes with a lot." he said, and then realized that anyone could take what he said the wrong way. "Not that I think you eat a lot or anything, at least it doesn't look like you do. But I don't think you do...but you know it doesn't really matter if you did, but I'm just saying." he rambled, "Wait, I mean-"

"It's okay." Sharpay giggled. "I know what you mean. Thank you."

Troy nodded. "Right."

"Okay bye guys!" she turned around to leave again.

"Remember Shar! DETAILS!!" Gabriella called after her.

"And remember what I said about him trying to sleep with you!" Troy added.
