I walked out of the school and across the Hogwarts grounds until I found my best friends sitting at the edge of the lake. The most mischievous, trouble making friends in the history of the world, I might add. They- James, Sirius, and Peter- were hunched together laughing their heads off about who knows what. I came up behind them and covered my mouth to keep from gasping.

"What is that thing?" I asked them.

"This, Mooney, is what you get when you turn something as disgusting as Snivellus into a gerbil." Sirius laughed. I guess it did look like a gerbil. Well, a gerbil dipped in grease, anyway. The guys were always doing things like this, and just as often getting caught. I quickly turned in a circle to make sure nobody was watching us. They may not mind getting in trouble, but I did.

"Brilliant, isn't it?" asked James, smiling. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was brilliant, but it was fairly decent. How many fourth years could turn someone into an animal like that?

"When we get caught, we're going to be sent to Dumbledore's office. You do understand he'll suspend us, right?" I asked them.

James just laughed. "No. If we get caught, which we probably won't, then well get sent to Dumbledore, who will tell us not to do it again or there will be severe consequences just like he did last time. And the time before that. And the time before that. I mean, let's face it, we are Dumbledore's favorite students."

Now that I thought about it, it was kind of true. But we could still get House Points taken away if Professor McGonagall caught us again. I didn't want us to us lose the House Cup like we did last year.

"Well, you might want to turn him back anyway. We have Herbology in ten minutes." I told them.

"Right. Okay. Turn him back Prongs." said Sirius. He raised his wand, about to change him back, when I stopped him.

"Bad idea. If we change him back here he's just going to attack us." I warned them.

"Always thinking, Mooney. But, we've already got it covered. See, we stole this sleeping potion from Professor Slughorn's room." He smiled at me. Then he put the potion into the gerbil's mouth and its eyes closed almost instantly. Then James turned him back and we all looked down at Snape curled up in a ball sound asleep.

"Are we just going to leave him here?" I asked them.

"That's the plan." Sirius stated matter-of-factly. Then we walked off, leaving Snivellus alone by the lake. I felt a little bad about that, but in the last four years I had learned to block it out. After all, Snape was a jerk.

As we were walking to class, I realized that Peter hadn't said one word the entire time. I bet the others didn't notice at all. I observed that Peter always tagged along wherever we went, and he always seemed to be trying a bit to hard to fit in somewhere. He wasn't bad or anything, he was just easy to forget sometimes.

"Are you okay, Wormtail?" I turned and asked him.

"I'm alright. Why?" He asked sounding nervous.

"Just wondering. You've just been really quiet." I told him. He just shrugged his shoulders.

Then James made some remark about how much better Snape looked as a gerbil and we all laughed and the talk I had with Peter was forgotten. But after that I always wondered if maybe, inside, Peter was lonely.
