"SMILE"

They say people will come into your life

To stay for a little while,

And when they'd served their purpose, they leave

Behind a mark, a smile.

I was far too busy to ponder

Over such trite, silly things;

I was, after all, the self-sufficient Queen

of the Obelisk Blue ring.

But I sensed something about you,

Dating back from the first day,

When I watched you dismantle the Golem;

To you, it was just a game.

Semesters fall like sands in an hourglass,

And I still can't explain

How your smile lit me up

On those sunny days, or in the rain.

When it came to intellect, you were a two-watt,

In kindness, an angel in red.

You always blew me away on the field,

Such fire, you practically bled.

You were everything all rolled into one,

From a child, a leader, to a zero.

To me (sickly cliche as it sounds),

You were my secret Slifer hero.

It's odd, how everyone's different now,

While I'm still very much the same.

Even you couldn't resist Change's embrace,

Nothing to you is a game.

You don't look like the hero I know,

Your eyes change colors in a blink!

Seems you've let your hair grow longer,

No more of your insightful winks.

I flip back through the pages

Of the scrapbook in my head.

What happened to you, anyhow?

When can I see your smile again?

They hand me an offer to sail away

To grow up in the Red, White and Blue.

As much as I want to make something of myself,

Could I really make it without you?

...I must make my decision:

Should I stay? Should I go?

I stray outside the building,

Exhausted from tonight's show.

Your skills haven't changed in the least bit,

Still got a surprise or three.

But I sense this wall you've got around you,

Don't you, at all, trust me?

Are you ashamed of all you've done?

You know, I've also made mistakes;

Remember when I fell asleep

And it took you to make me wake?

Perhaps it was foolish on my part

To consider you "my fix",

Aren't you just a kid, like the others and me,

Looking for your niche?

...I chance to bump into you again,

On the way to that ship in the dock.

Perhaps the last time I'll see your face,

Wish I could turn back the clock.

You tell me how awesome it was

To duel with me, after so long.

Did you put a door in your wall?

Are you still singing your playful song?

Then catching me off-guard, you give me

Something I've needed for such a while:

You gesture to me softheartedly

And award me with...your smile.

Suddenly, a wave of peace

Comes and swallows me whole.

I realize that you're so much wiser

than I'd ever given you credit for.

You're still the sweet paradox I adore,

Though you're growing up into a man.

Thanks to you, I'll keep pressing on,

And do whatever I can.

As I watch you sprint into the night,

I smile back and wave.

I'll hold onto your smile, for whenever

I feel lonely or afraid...

Wiping a tear from my eye,

I walk off to the future ahead...

I wanted so much to tell you this,

But maybe some things are best left unsaid?

Maybe this rediculously long ode sucked cheese, but hopefully, I'll quit dawdling now, and get back to my chapter stories!
