"Please," begged Tonks as she stood on Lupin's doorstep. "Please, Remus. I love you. That's all that matters. We could work this out."

"No," said Lupin firmly. "This would never work. People wouldn't understand. They would look at us funny because the age difference is too big."

"Who cares!" Tonks exclaimed. "It doesn't matter what people think. The age difference doesn't matter because we love each other. Age is nothing but a number."

"No. It will never work," responded Lupin.

"Why? Why! Why wouldn't it work?" Tonks screamed through her tears.

"Because…because I don't love you," lied Lupin as he closed the door in Tonks's face before he began to cry. When the door was closed, Lupin let his tears run free. He had to do it. He had to save Tonks from the mistake she was going to make. If they began a relationship everyone would judge Tonks. Her life would never be easy, and Lupin needed to protect her from a hard life.

"Remus! Remus, you selfish jerk, open up this door this instant!" yelled Tonks as she banged on the door with all her might. She took out her wand and began to try to burst it down. "Remus! Please!"

Remus looked the door with an unbreakable locking spell and walked to his room crying.

Tonks sobbed as she apparated back to her home. She locked herself in her room and let her tears flow for hours. She fell asleep after a while and awoke to a banging on her door. "What?" she cried her voice hoarse from her hours of sobbing last night.

"Open," commanded a sweet voice.

"No!" Tonks screamed trying not to cry again.

"Fine. I'll do it myself," the woman replied before blasting the door open. "Tonks you need….what's wrong?" Molly Weasley said when she saw the depressed girl laying on her bed. "You're a mess."

"I know," Tonks replied wiping away some stray tears.

"What's going on?" Molly asked as she sat down next to Tonks.

"It's Remus. He's….he's…" Tonks began, but she couldn't finish because she began to sob loudly. She finally stopped crying and told Molly what had happened. She left several hours later after they talked and had tea.

"Goodbye," said Molly as she walked out. "And Tonks remember one thing: everything will work out one day."

Tonks had trouble believing her, but she nodded and went back to her room. She opened a book instead of crying, but she had to put it down when someone started to knock on her door. Sighing, she put her book down and answered the door.

"Remus!" she gasped when she saw him. "What are…" Tonks was interrupted by Remus's lips crashing down to hers. "What was that for?" Tonks gasped when they broke apart.

"You were right," Lupin replied simply. "Age doesn't matter. It's nothing but a stupid number. This relationship isn't going to be easy, but love is never easy. But it'll work as long as I have you next to me."

"Forever?" questioned Tonks.

"Forever," confirmed Lupin before kissing her again. "Oh, and one more thing," he said when they split.

"What?" Tonks asked.

"I do love you," he replied sweetly.

"I love you too," Tonks responded, and they kissed again.
