A/N: In honor of Haku's birthday, here is a really short, government-class-boredom inspired fic.
It was snowing again. Nearly a week after arriving in the land of snow, Haku had begun to long for anywhere else. He loved water, his kekki genki leaving him little choice, but snow was frozen and cold. He'd never much cared for the cold.
The young ninja sighed and closed the shutter. Zabuza had told him to stay in the small hut until his return, but the building was drafty at best, and there wasn't much room to move about inside. It was fast approaching being worth the risk of disobedience just to get warm.
But opening the door would let the wind in full forceā¦
Sighing, the boy dropped onto his cot and pulled the thin blanket around him. Why did he let Zabuza dress him so? Sandals, in a snow country! Still, most days it did seem like a small price to pay.
Haku flopped sideways, letting his eyes slip closed. If he wouldn't leave, and couldn't get warm moving around, he might as well go to sleep.
...
Sometime later, Haku rolled over, blinking in the dimness of the shack. The howling wind outside heralded an increase in the storm's intensity, making telling the time impossible from his warm little nest.
Blinking, Haku experimentally tugged on his cover, noting the increased heaviness. Someone had covered him with a much warmer blanket while he was asleep. Carefully shifting so as not to lose any of the warmth, Haku's smile widened. Next to his cot sat a pair of knee-high boots; more than enough to keep his lower legs warm during their stay.
Snuggling back down into his bed, the boy hummed happily. He rememberedā¦
