Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

8:46 AM

I remember that day fondly, a day of remembrance yet a day that would chance my life forever. Here is my story.

"Hurry up Alex, it's starting," My mom called.

"Coming, coming. Sorry, I was just finishing the new issue of Sonic the Hedgehog. I wish dad was home to watch instead of on the road" I replied coming upstairs.

She was in the living room sitting on the end of the couch beside my brother, David and sister, Abi.

"Shh, it's time for the moment of silence" David said.

As I plopped down on the couch to sit and watch the memorial I thought of all the people affected by the attacks. I also thought of what my life would be if I lived in New York. I do that all the time I have a good imagination, I just never share it with anyone.

Two hours later I was downstairs in my room playing my old Super Nintendo with my best bud, Hakeem, when we heard an explosion above our heads and the ceiling began to crumble.

"What the heck is that?" Hakeem yelled

"I have no I..."

"Halt! You are all under arrest. Prepare to be robotized by order of Robotnik!"

"We-we have to get out of here. Come on!" I said to Hakeem and pulled

him to the window. "Go I'll follow you

Screams of my family could be heard as I climbed out the basement window. It took all the strength I could muster to not run into my house, and try but probably fail to save my family. When I finally looked around I could not believe my eyes. What I saw was is what nobody would think would happen in Canada, it looked like a war zone.

"I-its like w-World War 3 out here" I stammered

"We should get out of here" Hakeem said

"Yeah, lets take the Mr. Franc's Lamborghini. I don't think he'll mind" I said looking at the big hole on the side of Mr. Franc's house.

"You know how to drive one of those?"

"Maybe."

"Don't we need keys?"

"Yep," I said bending over and reaching under the car.

"What are you doing?"

"Getting the key. Now get in, I'll explain later" I told him

As soon as he slammed that door I floored it. Tires screeching we pulled out of Franc's driveway and roared down my street and on to the Perimeter Highway. I didn't ease up until we were at least 5 kilometers from Winnipeg, heading south.

"Now what are we going to do?" Hakeem asks, looking out his window "I mean our families are gone with whatever that thing was. Where are we even going to go."

"My dad is in Minneapolis delivering something, we'll go find him."

"How, we have no idea where he is exactly, and we cant even cross the border, we don't have passports"

"leave that to me I have an idea" I say with a smirk on my face.
