Hey everyone! This is the prologue of my new story Malevolence, that will hopefully be coming out sooner than later. I just wanted to give you a little taste even though it's not much. I hope you are looking forward to more!

I can't set a release date yet because I'm still working on Dizzy spinning Endlessly and If Your Alone Onstage, but I hope it will be soon.

Prologue – If Only

"Everybody wants me to be this lady of the court and I have no idea how to keep up the act."

"Then don't." Carlos said.

"See?" Jay said as he tried to stand up. "This was dumb."

"Maybe it wasn't." Evie said and Jay realized he should sit back down. Evie grabbed Mal's hand and looked at her friends. "We're always going to be the kids from the isle. I tried to forget it, I really tried, but those are our roots, and we all had to do what we had to do, to survive. It made us who we are. And we aren't going to be like anyone else here, and that's ok. That's ok."

"And we can't fake it." Carlos added.

"No." Evie confirmed.

"Yeah, I mean especially without my spell book." Mal said sadly.

"Mal, if Ben doesn't love the real you," Carlos said, "Then he's not the one."

Jay nodded.

Evie smiled. "I like that."

It was silent for a moment before Carlos said, "Give him a chance."

Mal didn't know what to say.

Evie leaned in a little. "I'm going to make some changes to your dress, and if you're up for it, only if you're up for it, it will be waiting for you, ok?"

Mal sat there quietly and Evie gave her a hug.

It was quiet for a moment more before the VK's stood up and started walking away.

Jay realized Mal was still sitting in the grass, so he backed up and sat down next to her. He looked into her eyes and said, "Come to cotillion tonight, all right?" Mal looked to him as he continued. "If Ben isn't smart enough to love you and you can't stand another day, I'll drive you back tomorrow myself."

Mal smiled a bit, grateful for her friend.

"K?" He said with a smile as he patted her shoulder and stood to leave.

Mal's smile then faded as Jay walked away.

"If only I knew what my heart was telling me.

Don't know what I'm feeling,

Is this just a dream?
