As she sat before the desk in the hidden office, she felt two sets of eyes upon her. Dumbledore's symptathetic yet probing eyes stared gently into hers attempting to offer her any comfort they could. And to her right, Snape's gaze bore into her side, wordlessly threatening her to keep quiet.
Dumbledore was the first to break the penetrating silence that filled the room.
"I assure you that you have nothing to fear." At his words, Hermione shot an uneasy glance in Snape's direction, but his expression was now unreadable.
"Did he touch you in any way, Miss Granger?" Again, it was Dumbledore who had spoken. Stealing another glimpse at Snape, she quickly turned towards the floor and shut her eyes. She could still feel his hands gliding over her skin. and it made her want to scratch off her flesh until only blood and bones remained. She remembered the sensation of his hot, stale breath in her mouth, and she could feel the bile rising up her throat. Shaking her head viguoursly, she tried to shove away the images that had plaguing her nightmares all week -- ever since that day after Potions class.
"He didn't then?" Dumbledore's voice broke her out of her mental torment. Clearly he had mistaken her headshake as a no. Briefly, she thought of correcting him, but then she remembered the meanacing words as she had left the classroom that day and quickly changed her mind.
"No...no, he never touched me." A sense of defeat filled her, as she could practically feel him smirking triumphantly behind her. She had let him win, and reduced herself to nothing more than a victim: a mere pawn in his wicked game.
"Very well. You may go." Slowly she stood up and made her way for the door. "But.." He started as she turned around, "...if there's ever anything you wish to tell me?"
She could only manage a nod in response, and then headed back out the door, as Snape followed closely behind her. Once they were safely out of Dumbledore's earshot, he whipped around in front of her and gave her a wicked self-satisfied grin.
"See you after class."
